Greyson Keller tells a little white lie. To appease her matchmaking sorority sisters her spur of the moment fib regarding her relationship status doesn’t seem like such a big deal. Till her imaginary boyfriend shows up at her front door.

Cal Thompson didn’t know he was in a relationship. Till he read it on Twitter. But this little misunderstanding actually serves to bring two available people together in this cute, sweet, and sexy romantic tale.

What I adored (absolutely adored) about this book—
There is no unnecessary drama. No meddling OW or OM. Just a cute story of boy meets girl, engages in flirty correspondence with girl, becomes friends with girl, falls in love with girl and vice versa. Greyson is outgoing, confident, and spunky. (No whiney, wishy-washy insecure females here.) Cal is a down-to-earth, average guy. (He’s not a douchebag or a manwhore or thinks he’s god’s gift to women.) Both main characters are single people not looking for sex or love but find it when and where they least expect it. They aren’t broken or damaged or hauling around baggage from previous relationships. They are just normal people. I wish more authors wrote swoon worthy romance stories like this.

Told via Grey and Cal’s alternating first person point of view, the story is light-hearted and fun told in many sections via emails, texts, and social media posts. It was so refreshing to read a new adult romance simply about meeting someone you connect with and falling in love.

They really make a cute couple and their first kiss was hotter than a lot of love scenes I’ve read. When they finally hook up, it definitely oozed steam because there was actually a build up…a huge build up of their friendship, chemistry, and feelings for one another.

Everyone has told a little white lie in their life, but what would happen if that little white lie got blown out of proportion and your lie came true ? For Greyson Keller, she is President of her Sorority and has a long list of clubs and obligations to do that she is far too busy for a boyfriend but with the Gala coming up , her friends all expect her of course to have a date so when she is put on the spot at their last planning meeting - Greyson lies and tells them she has a date and a boyfriend called Cal Thompson. She grasps the name out of thin air as the Cal is short for California Oranges and the surname Thompson came from the fact that she was sitting opposite Brianna Thompson from her Economics class. So begins the little white lie of having a boyfriend named Cal. What she doesn't expect though is that Julia who is in charge of marketing tweets about Greyson and her new boyfriend Cal Thompson - tagging him in the twitter account. Turns out that a "Cal Thompson" does exist an hour away and he is recieving all the messages about him and someone named Grey whom of course he expects to be a guy. Ready for a fight, he drives up to the sorority and comes face to face with Greyson Keller - what a shock when they both realise what has happened. Over the next course of the book through email, text, phone calls and tweets the pair start communicating and of course the rest is history. But when Greyson starts to develop
"true feelings' can she really date someone like Cal or do her friends expect more of Greyson when it comes to her dating choices ? What I really loved about this book, which made me smile was the fact that they played "Rugby" not "Football" which of course Rugby is one of New Zealand's main sports.
If you are needing a new edgy New Adult Fiction novel to get stuck into and since it is a novella it is a quick read, check out Things Liars Say by Sara Ney today.

About the book: Things Liars Say was such a fun read! I read this book in about in two hours and absolutely loved it. The chemistry is perfect and entertaining. If I wasn't smiling, giggling like a school girl, I was laughing so hard I was crying. Makes me want to create a fake boyfriend just so I can have such a cute relationship. A realistic relationship. I'm glad the characters were able to overcome the beginning obstacle and create a friendship that eventually led to more. It was a refreshing read in the sense that there was a happy ending without some sort of "downfall" or problem causing them to break up or fight and be miserable for a portion of the book. I even enjoyed Cal's sister's POV at the end. I was sad when it ended!

About the author: Right from the beginning Sara Ney hooks you in and keeps your interest until the very end. Sara Ney is an awesome author. Her characters always seem to fit the storylines perfectly. Her sassiness in her writing is amazing! I can honestly say I can read anything she writes and be happy. I'm always laughing at her references! I cannot wait for her next book!!!!!!

Overall Opinion: This was a really cute and easy read. I love the banter and the fact that the h was more attractive than the H. Usually the stories are where the h is lucky to have snagged the H's attention, so this was a nice change. I think more books should have this dynamic to show that not all of us females are so shallow that we worry about looks and not much else. I cannot say that I don't feel like attraction is important -- it is! But looks aren't always everything...personally intelligence and sense of humor are way up there in my book. This is a good bit shorter than most of the books I read because I always worry about not having enough time to establish a connection, but I didn't feel that with this book. Did it get deep? No. But it was still enjoyable and we feel the connection they make through Twitter posts, email, and texts over several weeks. (I would've still liked it longer though). I agree with other reviewers in that it would've been nice to have more interaction face-to-face with the h and H and I would've also liked some more closure with the couple.

I've never done the .75 rating before, but I couldn't give it the full 4 stars (and I feel like 3.5 isn't enough) because of 3 things: the length, not enough in person interaction, and needing more closure.

Storyline: This is Greyson and Cal's story. Greyson is on a charity committee for her sorority and to prevent nagging from her friends about who her date is going to be for their big gala -- she invents a fake boyfriend. Meanwhile, Cal is told by his friends that some dude is posting on Twitter about how they are dating. Cal is shocked when drives the hour to beat up this guy when Greyson is a girl. They end up developing a friendship and their relationship grows over email and texts.
