We read the book together, of course! I found it delightful. He seemed to enjoy it - then, I asked him for specifics. I told him we were going to do a 'review' and asked what he liked about the book. He said: "I like the pictures, and I like the fancy writing."
"Anything else", I prodded. He said that he liked the part where the dinosaurs were waiting for the washroom with their knees touching. Some leftover appreciation from a five year old's sense of humour which I believe will still linger for quite a while. I asked if he found the end scary, (spoiler alert!) and he laughed -more sophisticated now- that dinosaurs don't wear bibs, so no he was not afraid of them eating him. That last dinosaur had a pretty large knife and fork ready to dig in!!
Great nonsense and colour kept both of us interested and entertained!
*Sigh* I do not recommend this book.
I'm so confused about the author's motivation for writing that ending.... Either they have no experience with small children or this was some kind of a sick joke, writing a lighthearted kids book about dinosaurs and then telling kids at the end at these dinasaurs eat kids.
I also didn't like the mentions about dinosaurs not liking to brush their teeth or doing math. Kids need all the tooth-brushing and academic encouragement they can get. Some seemingly inoccuous comment likes that in a kids book can cause real-world setbacks. Not a fan.....
