"Rouse and Rouse's advice is supported by meticulously cited studies, and their exuberance is charming, rather than zealous. This self-improvement/diet hybrid will appeal to a wide audience." (Publishers Weekly)

I enjoyed a brief opportunity to spend some time with Dr. James at a Summit in Arkansas a couple of summers ago. He is truly a genuinely inspiring person - from the heart, mind, body and soul. My observations made in that brief time compel me to say that he walks the talk. His convictions related to his lifestyle choices (many if not all uniquely framed in the book) are 100% authentic and frankly contagious. I walked away from the encounter and made some immediate change to some of my lifestyle choices. Especially around the areas of food and exercise.
The book is a simple read with a ton of simple action items backed up by a foundation of awesome inspirational push. Don't read this book unless you are ready to do something with your heart, body, mind and soul. James and Debra tell their stories as if you are sitting in a chair or Yoga pose or laying on a workout bench or grabbing a slow and refreshing lunch right there with them. They are vulnerable and personal yet inspiring and contagious people through and through.
Read the book - it will compel you to awesomeness.
And have a compelling day!
Dr. James Rouse and his wife Dr. Debra Rouse won’t challenge you to lose a certain number of pounds. They won’t challenge you to climb any particular mountain or run a marathon at a mind-blowing speed. In their new book, Think Eat Move Thrive, these doctors turned wellness experts challenge you to live with purpose and to thrive on your own terms.
There are millions of books out there pitching fad diets and espousing the definitive (and always concrete) number of steps to success. If life were so cut and dry, we would all be happy all the time. Dr. Rouse isn't selling a catchphrase.
Still, I was hooked from the moment I first met him in Toronto. Dr. Rouse is charismatic, genuine and knowledgeable. Those personal qualities which drew me to him in a crowded conference hall are what will draw you to this book. What's special about his strategies and his insight is that they don't require any gimmicks. That's how he is in real life and that's what he and his wife develop in this book.
This book is about looking within yourself. Buttressed by extensive research and proven scientific methods, Dr. Rouse and his wife encourage their readers to consider the reasons behind why we act the way do. Their philosophy synthesizes a spirit of mindfulness and teaches a method, instead of focusing on results. It encourages balance and draws a clear path between thinking about what we do, doing what we do and thriving at what we do. The morality of the book is quite simply that through intentionality and process, we can achieve great wellness, which inevitably leads to great success in all aspects of our lives.
Dr. Rouse and his wife are remarkable because they’re honest. They’re compelling because you can feel the love in their words. Their book is truly inspiring.
Drs. James and Debra—as they prefer to be known—distill years of experience as physicians, entrepreneurs, nutritionists into a few hundred pages. They combine extensive research, incisive lessons and innovative ideas on a number of subjects into a digestible foundation for thriving.
In the book, Dr. James weaves a narrative of intentional living together with well-researched scientific studies and practical protocols for everything from weight loss and goal setting to relaxation and meditation. Throughout, Dr. Debra injects an intuitive analysis and pithy commentary, echoing, reflecting and challenging her husband’s perspectives to encourage a conversation between them and you, their readers.
True to their spirit for innovation, they’ve supplemented this discursive style with bar codes linked to Youtube videos appealing to our other senses as well. It really is an interactive experience.
Each year I try to identify authors whose books will color the way I approach the world and all its challenges for the following twelve months. Dr. James’ book is my 2015 inspiration. I strongly believe that the universe opens up to provide us exactly what we need when we need it. I needed Dr. James’ book and I think you’ll realize you needed it as well!
