The goal of the game is easy: to connect four of your colors a row, in any direction.
I first tried this game out with my 9 year old and had fun trying out a variety of strategies. If you look closely at the pieces, they have different connectors on different sides, so you can use that to your advantage to block players from adding on pieces. So while the game can be easy, you can take it up a level by really focusing on blocking your opponent.
We love that there is no setup time needed for this game, and it is super easy to explain, so the kids can play with their friends too. It is also quick to clean up and pop in the bag.
This game is recommended for ages 8 and up, but my 6 year old was able to play as well. She might not be able to strategize as far as using the connectors to block other players, but still loves playing.
The games comes with 25 spheres total, but my kids even got creative playing with the pieces and building things unrelated to actual game play. They liked just connecting pieces and making shapes with them.
Overall, a fun addition to our game collection that gets the kids thinking and strategizing!

The age suggested is 7+ and I'd agree with that because it requires some fine motor skills that much younger could become frustrated by, not to mention this is not a game you really want to have around a child who likes to taste test everything. These are unfortunately the right size for choking hazard! I have two teens that some might think are 'too old' for this type of game but fortunately they like to try new games. My 16-year-old son has won every single time we've played!
I am very happy with this game and would like to see what others ThinkFun offers. I did receive this product free for the express purpose of an honest review.

I received this game free in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Stratos Spheres is a 2 player, 3-D, strategy game where each player is working to get four "spheres" in a row while also endeavoring to block the other player's efforts. It's a simple mechanic. But, when you're twisting and turning the entire construct, the entire game becomes much more engaging.
Stratos Spheres comes with 1 White "Neutral" Sphere, 12 Blue Spheres, 12 Yellow Spheres, and a branded games bag to keep everything together. As with all ThinkFun games, the pieces and the bag are well made and stand up to the abuse of being a family game. The instructions/rules are easy to follow and have clear illustrations in case there is any confusion.
Though we've yet to play to a tie (by running out of spheres), I wouldn't mind having more spheres for longer, more intense games. And, the only thing I can think of that would make Stratos Spheres better would be to add more colors, for more players. Sure two is complicated enough. But, make it five in a row with more people all working on an ever growing construct and you have a brilliant party game.
- Simple but fun
- Only two players
Simple, but brilliantly difficult at the same time.
