My daughter (12) and I like to find new 'car' games. We keep a couple games in the car so when we go out to eat or end up some place where we have to wait, we have something to do. This game is the perfect size and is fun because the two of us can work on it together. It isn't too hard for the kid and just challenging enough to keep my brain occupied.

It is also a good one to play for a while and then put away for a couple months. That way it seems fresh.

Of course I would always like MORE puzzle cards to figure out, but for the price (and free shipping when this was written) - it is great! Cheaper than the store where we first saw it.

I'm a middle school English teacher. When students finish work early, they can get out little logic puzzles that I've acquired over the years. I just purchased this and love it. One student, not easily pleased by anything, walked up to me and told me this was a fun game. Her enjoyment of it is proof that I didn't waste my money.

I did the dog one and felt such accomplishment when I figured it out. Go buy one--you won't regret it.

I bought several of the ThinkFun puzzles for my children last Christmas, and they definitely enjoy them.

Square By Square is one of the easier puzzles due to the rectangular pieces. My oldest son (8) didn't fine it as challenging or entertaining, but my younger (5) loved it. It provided just enough of a challenge without being frustrating.

I love to play games. I like the challenge of them and how they keep my mind working properly. uh hmm...
I have made many a homemade games but love to play the boxed ones too.

That is why I was excited to receive this fun pattern game Square by Square from the Thinkfun company. This game comes with:
*Game grid with storage chamber
*60 cards
*8 blue piece
*6 green pieces
*Game-go bag

The Square by Square game is slated for children 5 and up which seems to be about right, although, I could see for a younger child it may not hold attention very long.

Square by Square is a challenging game with 60 patterns that challenge children to think while they are using the manipulative pieces that help them with fine motor skills. Thank goodness it comes with a bag to hold all the pieces otherwise, I could see the pieces getting lost really quick.

On each card it states what the child is making. This is a nice plus for the emergent child reader and writer. Also, there are a couple of hints on the back of each card that helps the child that may be stuck and to help boost their confidence to complete a task.

One other plus for this game is that it is meant for the single player. This means that a child is only challenging his or herself and is not under the normal pressure to win as many games do. The fun is in self discovery and learning.

Learn:
*Spatial reasoning
*Discover multiple solutions
*Perseverance
*Gain confidence

I think overall, I give this a 4 stars as I like the game and think kids would too. This would be something nice to have in the car for short trips as an alternate to other things.

I bought these for our 3 year old granddaughter and she loves playing with it, the cards that come with it are a little challenging for her but she definitely tries to complete the puzzle. Although our 5 yr old granddaughter loves the card challenges and can complete them easily. You should try them.

Think Tetris meets building blocks. You have a set of blue and green blocks, each one in various shapes. You have a set of cards. The goal is to take all the irregularly shaped pieces and make the image on the card in a way that fills the game board.

Sound easy? It's not.

At least not for my husband. You'd think that for someone who is smart, has played so much Tetris and loves LEGO's that it would be easy. But he over thinks it and stares at it and gets frustrated.

My four year old? She could care less. She starts putting down the pieces and moving them around and trying things out until she gets it. Penguin. H. Pinwheel. Tall Y. Runner. Dog. I'll be honest, the pictures on the cards sometimes look nothing like the description, but my daughter just looks at the picture and goes to work. She doesn't get all of them, but she gets more than the hubby. And like MasterCard, some things are just priceless.

Please note, I received Square By Square for free to facilitate this review. Regardless, all opinions expressed are 100% my own.

I have several ThinkFun games that I use in my class to help my students develop their critical thinking skills, as well as to illustrate how to create simple in-class studies, like measuring the difference between completion times while listening to music or talking or remaining completely silent. The students have fun, and several go on to buy their own sets to use at home and "practice"!

Also, when one of the pieces went missing I was able to get a replacement piece directly from ThinkFun very easily. Amazon and ThinkFun are great to work with!
