Top customer reviews
As a Fujifilm X100T user (and formerly the X100), my everyday bag for little trips around town has been the Domke 700-51S F-5XA Small Shoulder and Belt Bag - Sand. (A bag that I also love!) But I wanted something a little bit bigger for travel. Something to hold my X100T, spare batteries, and any other small things that I might need (or collect) while wandering around. For that purpose, this bag fits the bill, as it can store my camera stuff, plus sunglass case, reading glasses, a map, and plenty more. And as per YouTube reviews, can easily hold small interchangeable lens kits.
But one of the coolest things about the bag is the "raincoat" it comes with. On a recent trip, I was caught out in a torrential downpour. I was expecting this, and in the past, I wouldn't have even brought my bag with me for fear of it getting soaked. But this time, I just needed to duck into a doorway, wrap the rain bag around it, and in less than 60 seconds my stuff was fully protected.
I even like the Velcro "noise prevention" system, which allows the user to block the Velcro and just have the top flap open with no effort. This is nice for indoor spaces, as the Velcro on the bag can be pretty loud. I wasn't sure I'd use this feature but now I'm sold on its usefulness.
Finally, it's a sweet looking bag. Simple, rugged, with a slightly "well-loved" vibe. Comfortable, adjustable strap. And no logo to be seen. (I know, if someone really wants your bag, they don't bother looking for camera bag logos.)
All in all, I love this bag and would definitely buy it again.
I was skeptical about keeping the top flap open with "silent velcro", but it turned out to be a great idea - it makes it very easy to take a few shots, then put the camera back quickly. The strap is on the thin side, and that's probably one of the few things I would even consider listing as a con (the other one being the fact that there are, somehow, too many pockets - they do get in the way sometimes).
Think Tank's customer service, however, is the real reason I'm writing this review. These guys are amazing. After two months of using the Retrospective I discovered that one of the velcro patches on the flap of my bag was coming off as the stitching in the corner started to come apart. I messaged Think Tank on Facebook with a photo of the velcro patch and they got back to me right away, telling me to get in touch with customer service over email. I did just that and they asked me to send my bag to them and then priority shipped me a brand new replacement bag right away, I got it just two days later. Again, absolutely great support and warranty service... it's great to see a company that stands behind their product. Solid five stars.
It's also not nearly as large as some of the photos make it seem - large enough that it won't be mistaken for a tiny teen's purse, but not so large that it's ever in the way. With M43, it would comfortably hold an E-M1 and 4 lenses. With my Sony A7 setup now, it will comfortably hold the camera (with lens attached) and two other lenses - if I need to push it, I can squeeze in three other lenses (Leica 90mm f/2, Canon 20mm, Pentax 50mm and the FE 35 attached).
