Breaks my heart that is has come to Dr Seuss being cancelled, it is truly a sad day for America. Rather than using any descriptions or depictions deemed racistas a teaching moment of how the past world was viewed, Dr Seuss works are being discontinued. So this is what it has come to, modern day book burnings.

I grew up with this book and always loved it, so I got it just on a nostalgia kick. Who doesn't love Dr Seuss, for his incredible creativity, his way with words, the rhythms and rhymes kids of all ages love. The premise of the book is a young boy whose father always wants to know how his day was and if anything exciting happened. So...the boy uses his imagination to turn an ordinary sight into a grand chaotic parade (in his mind), until he gets home and his dad predictably asks him if he saw anything unusual on his way home. Love this story!

Amazing book that is well written and great for kids. It is a sign of the sad times that classics such as awarding winning Mulberry Street is being canceled and subject to digital book burnings. So sad!

A boy with a wild imagination creates a story of the incredible things he sees on his way home from school. As he grows closer and closer to his home where is father awaits to hear about his walk home, his story grows more and more outlandish. When he finally runs up the steps to his home and meets his father's eyes, he can't bring himself to tell his father anything but the truth.

I have been a mother for 14 years. My sister bought me this book when I was pregnant with my first child. As a mother of three I have read this story a thousand times and it is all three of my children's favorite book. I know it by heart. I have bought this book several times as my children read played with and colored on it through the years. I thankfully have one copy still as it sits on my bookshelf with the collection of all our favorite Dr Seuss books. To this day if i pull this book out and start reading it to my 6 year old daughter, my 14 and 12 year old daughters slowly creep from their rooms and by the end of the last pages they are all sitting around me. I have read this book to many of my neices and nephews and great nieces and nephews. It saddens and angers me that I have three girls and one copy of this book...a book I know all three of my girls will want to read to their children when they become mother's. This book is a staple in our home and many homes across the world. This book was a gift to us. It brought us closer together as a family and I have watched it bring joy to many children. Shame on this company for taking that away from so many people.

It’s mostly fun but there’s a couple things in this book on the wrong end of history. There’s a shot at little girls that makes them sound dumb, and a very racist depiction of an Asian person. Right now I’m changing a few words when I read it to my child who can’t read yet, but eventually I’ll be straight with her about why those things aren’t cool. It’ll be a teaching moment.

This is the first Dr Seuss book I read to my little boy. We read it countless times . I was really amazed by it's imagination, and since then bought more Dr Seuss books. I am Chinese and it never crossed my mind any part of this book was inappropriate for my race.

And now white people are telling me this book is racist against me and my boys. I am amused.

When my dad brought this book for me, I was delighted as a small child about 6 years old. I loved the elaboration of the story. It's a fantasy, and children like to know what is next, what is more fantastic, and they know it's just a game. My dad used to peer intently inside my ear and describe seeing a living savanna filled with wild animals. I knew very well that was not true, but I loved playing make believe with him. This book is make-believe. I read it to my child and asked him what else could be in the parade, and that was a lot of fun to have a dialogue just for fun.

This was my absolute favourite bedtime story book when I was little :)

I recently bought it for my daughter, who is far too young to appreciate it (6 months), but I read it to her anyway. It's the story of a boy with a huge imagination, told in the usual rhyming Dr. Seuss style. As it is his very first book, I have to admit the rhyming isn't as good as his subsequent titles. A few pages just don't rhyme at all. But it's still a good story.

It's softcover, so not suitable for young babies who are likely to tear the pages, but such a good price if you want to collect all the Dr. Seuss titles without paying a hefty price tag. I've found most of his other books in this format which makes a nice little set. It's big enough to appreciate the illustrations too.

Wonderful! There is a simplicity, even a naivety about this, the first of the Dr Seuss' books that sets it apart from what follows. If there is not quite the confident boisterousness of some of the later offerings this is more than compensated for by the engaging storyline and, as ever, the infectious rhythms. "Green Eggs and Ham" will always be my personal favourite but this runs it a close second. That I write of my responses rather than those of the children, which on this occasion coincide, testifies to the fact that all the best children's books exercise a strong pull on an adult readership. A book and a writer to be grateful for.
