Bug Trails arrived on Monday and we ripped right into it. Our five year old daughter loved playing it the "real" way and then we discovered the alternate instructions (skipping the flag) and she loved that even more. The instructions are clear and simple and we were able to start playing immediately. Our daughter didn't like the "angry" looking bugs at first, but now they're "just fine! No really, I like them!".

Some comments:
-my semi color blind husband likes that the colors are easy to distinguish, even for him.
-our daughter likes that she can build with the bugs when we're done with the trails.
-the grandparents loved being able to sit at a table and play a game that held everyone's attention.
-the travel/storage bag? wonderful!
- the only negative that we've noticed is that the bug sticker is coming up on one corner of one tile. so not a big deal.

Another ThinkFun hit for our family.

We've had several ThinkFun games in the house for a while (Zingo and What's Gnu come to mind) and have loved them. We started playing BugTrails according to the directions and enjoyed seeing the different patterns that would emerge depending on which domino was matched to which leg color. After a while we made up our own rules and expanded the game, I think the possibilities are endless for morphing this game and keeping it fresh! Great for pattern recognition, for playing fair (yes, even for adults :), and even for talking about our 6-legged bug friends! Though it's listed for 6 year olds, we think younger kids could play as well. Enjoy!

Kids love all the different bug characters and work on strategy while having a great time. This game is even great for younger kids with a suggestion from ThinkFun on how to alter the rules a bit.

This is made of cheap plastic. There is not weight to the pieces so it just feels cheap. The colors are fun and vibrant, but that doesn't help make the game fun. It is way too easy and games are over in a minute or two. Kids get bored and want to move on to a better game...can't blame them. Other games by this company are great, but this one is bad. Wish I hadn't thrown the box out after Christmas or it would be going back!

Regular dominoes or Qwirkle is way more engaging and fun.

Pros: colorful and comes with bag
Cons: boring, cheap parts, for kids 2.5 - 4 only

Our family played today for the first time. Our age group was 4, 7, 43, 45, and 75 and everyone loved it so much we played about 10 rounds. The dominoes have funny little faces on them and are very colorful . The object of the game is to match by color and get rid of all your dominoes. Every player starts off with 5 dominoes. If you make a single match then you must get another domino , if you make a double sided match then you don't have to get another domino and if you make a triple sided match then you are allowed to throw one of your dominoes back in the bag.The one who gets rid of all their dominoes is the winner. It is a really cute game and way more fun than I had anticipated.

After playing Candy Land umpteen times a week you can get a little frazzled and wish for good games that are actually entertaining and educational. This one fits the bill. My 3 year old was a little young to grasp how to get three legs matching, but he could match one just fine, so we laxed the rules a bit for him. My 5 and 7 year old love it and can understand all of the rules, and I can see their little brains working to try and match as many legs as possible. The best part is, it is actually fun to play with them. My husband and I found it a bit challenging and entertaining as well. Great game!

ThinkFun's Bug Trails takes dominoes and makes it fun for all ages. Your family can make the game as easy or as hard as they'd like based from the original rules to adjust for the various ages and abilities of the players. Younger players can easily recognize their colors and match them. Older players can work harder and use problem solving skills to try and match as many bug legs at once as they can to make the game more challenging.

My 4 year old son has attention issues (but is not ADD), so we play by matching off the last bug played with the flag on it. You can also choose to play matching off any bug if you choose to make it easier. For our family, it makes it easier if our son plays off the bug with the flag because it gives him a place to focus his play. Using all of the bugs to match off of is too overwhelming for him with all of the choices.

Another win from ThinkFun! My favorite thing about their games is that most can be adapted to suit the abilities of your child. There's enough flexibility in the way the game is made to play in the way that works for your family.

Playing this colourful twist on dominoes not only develops pattern and colour recognition skills but also strategic thinking as children play against each other. Its open ended play enables children to develop mastery as they become more experienced and as such, has a high replay value. The faces and colours on the bugs twisting into different trails make it a visually stimulating activity that leave the kids marveling at their creations. It is easy to see that Bug Trails could go further with adding more colours and more complicated rules involving the facial expressions on the bugs. Bug trails is easy to get started on but takes time for the children to figure out strategies, transforming the game from one of collaboration to competition.
