Thinkbaby & Thinksport address the growing concern of toxic chemicals leaching from consumer products and aim to create safe alternatives for babies to athletes alike.
With a team of physicians & scientists, Thinkbaby & Thinksport lead in the usage of safe materials for consumer products. We don’t wait for materials to make headlines in order to make a change. We continue to expand our products to offer alternatives to existing products on the market. Our efforts are energized by working with leading child advocacy partners & like-minded individuals seeking alternative products. We approach each product with the same criteria: safe, functional, & sustainable.
- The cosmetic industry is highly unregulated. The best regulation will come from consumers selecting safe solutions.
UVA & UVB Broad-Spectrum
Consumers have been led to believe that ultra-high SPF numbers like 70 and 100 provide much more protection than SPF 30. This is False. SPF 30 provides 97% protection from UVB and SPF 100 provides 99% coverage for UVB. We tell folks if you look at the back of the tube and you see a bunch of words you don’t recognize, you probably don’t want to put that on your skin. It is important that you’re using a truly Broad-spectrum formula that covers UVA and UVB.
Mineral Based Formula
Chemical sunscreens make up the majority of the market unfortunately. They are both cheap and apply clear. Mineral based solutions can cause some amount of whitening during use and are also more expensive. But at what cost is it cheaper. Some mineral base formulations have also taken to using clear zinc or nano particle sized zinc or titanium. We recommend sourcing a non-nano zinc oxide solution. There is just not enough data on the ability for nano particles getting into the blood stream. As such, it is better to embrace the Precautionary principle.
There are now three levels of water resistance. Not water resistant, water resistant (40 minutes) and water resistant (80 minutes). We have all become used to seeing words like sweatproof or waterproof. There are now very specific tests. Keep in mind, that if you’re at the beach or pool that you’ll need to reapply after being in the water. And to achieve the SPF factor of your sunscreen you have to reapply every two hours. One application does not keep you at SPF 50 or whatever is on the sunscreen label. And you should be using about 1oz to cover an adult body.
Tips for Application
- Be sure to apply all areas that will be exposed to sunlight, including behind the ears, neck, hands, feet, and scalp 15 minutes before sun exposure.
- Reapply after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating, immediately after towel drying, at least every 2 hours.
- While the sunscreen applies very easily, we recommend not spreading it too thin. Otherwise you will decrease the effectiveness of the sunscreen.

As a result, I will not be using this for my children. It seems consumers must choose between ineffective products and products that contain harmful chemicals.
I have decided to invest in long sleeve sun clothing and use a minimal amount of Coppertone WaterBabies Pure and Simple more chemically harmful, but effective (and cheaper) sunscreen.
That caused us to spend the following day in hotel because we couldn’t even put clothes on!!! Not exactly what we wanted to do at all. More than a week later, we are still shedding skin. I didn’t get burn for over a decade before this trip.
I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND this product, not just for the reason above but also for the price. Ridiculous!!!
I applied one thin coat to her face and arms on a Friday afternoon. We spent about 40 minutes in the sun. The next morning, her forehead and cheeks start looking a little red, and her dad thought she got a bit of sunburn. By Saturday night she was getting little bumps around the forehead and arms. On Sunday morning, her entire face was red and bumpy, and her eyes were starting to swell. She was getting bumps on her chest as well. We got an after-hour clinic appointment right away and took her in. The doctor gave us some medicine and said it should be gone in a couple of days. By Thursday her face was still bumpy, though the redness and swelling had gone down. We ended up going to the doctor’s again on Thursday night and even she was surprised that it still hadn’t gone completely away. The bumps finally went away 8 or 9 days after the sunscreen application.
Picture is from day 4. Skin was still very bumpy and red. I tossed the whole tube in the trash.
Think about it, if the sunscreen isn't safe enough for fish, you probably shouldn't be rubbing it into you or your baby's skin.

ThinkBaby is the real deal. You are never going to find a good sunscreen that doesn't stay "white" on skin, or not feel greasy. Those just simply don't work as well. You want the high spf, you want the zinc oxide. ThinkBaby smells amazing, it spreads evenly and offers awesome protection. My daughter had swimming lessons every single day through daycare this summer (12 weeks). She wore Think Baby every single day. She had zero, I repeat, zero, sunburns. Add to this that ThinkBaby is approved by stringent Whole Foods and was recommended by Lucie's List and I am sold.
Would recommend, and recommend using it as they recommend for all sunscreens- apply liberally, reapply after swimming etc. We all know the deal.
