I would randomly miss recordings with the USB HD PVR 2 or if the video did record the audio wouldn't. I replaced it with this and haven't missed a recording since. The recording software can be tricky to set up. Here's the easiest way to set it up using the free Titan TV electronic programming guide (EPG) service if you are using an external set top box (STB) e.g. HD Cable box, Satellite tuner, etc.: 1. Install the card and then install Hauppauge WinTV 7 or 8 from the included installation CD and reboot. Installing WinTV will automatically install the drivers for the capture card. 2. Find the "BlastCfg.exe" program which in my case was located up one level from the main WinTV program executable: C:\Program Files (x86)\WinTV\ Double-click or run "BlastCfg.exe" to set up IR control of your particular STB. 3. Open WinTV and after it is open right-click the screen and select "Settings". 4. Click on the "Devices" tab and click on your capture card to highlight it then click "Tuner Setup". 5. Select your video input, audio input and check "Use IR Blaster to control STB". 6. Under channels it has the options of "Manual Entry", "Internet Lookup (USA only)" or "Channel Range". Select "Channel Range" because of the weird way WinTV decides if a correct channel was chosen using an external EPG like Titan TV. If you choose "Internet Lookup" and the NAME of the channel in a Titan TV recording doesn't match up EXACTLY with the name of the channel in WinTV, then it won't record. So, instead, select "Channel Range" and enter a range of 1 through 9999. You won't miss any recordings if you set it up this way. 7. Go to TitanTV.com and create a free account and create a Default Channel Lineup from your local cable company, satellite provider, etc. 8. Go to the main TV listings page and click on a TV program in progress or upcoming and click on the Red "Record this Program" button. 9. If you are using Google Chrome then click on the downloaded .tvpi file at the bottom and select always open files of this type. 10. The first time you open a .tvpi file you might have to tell your computer what program to use to open it. Tell it to open it with the "WinTVTVPI.exe" program which in my case was located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\WinTV\WinTV8\WinTVTVPI.exe 7. Create a shortcut on your desktop pointing to the WinTV executable but add the "-scheduler" switch to the end which in my case was: "C:\Program Files (x86)\WinTV\WinTV8\WinTV8.exe" -scheduler Name the shortcut "WinTV Scheduler". Great inexpensive video card, although I certainly wouldn't pay what Amazon is selling it for now. (mine was thirty-five bucks including shipping from a Marketplace seller) Hard-core gamers probably won't be satisfied, but it's fine for lower-end stuff or as a cheap replacement for on-board video.

My Windows Experience Index was 2.3 (with a GeForce 6200) before I installed this card. It took the rating up almost two full points, and made a big difference in the performance. I sure wouldn't pay over two hundred dollars for it, though.

Great Buy; Above Average/Expected Performance

Easy to install. Performs better than I expected for the price. The card likes to be cooled, even though it has a fan. I added a case fan and it improved overall temperature and stability. Very good color production and advanced options; just don't expect to play the latest PC games with the big boys. Great for average desktop user.
