The Thinker-Artist (Sophia and Philosophia) is a work of philosophical fiction, or, more accurately, of philosophy and fiction side by side.
The book is a follow-up to Pure: Modernity, Philosophy, and the One and a transition to Plato and Nietzsche: Their Philosophical Art. It relates the semi-autobiographical story of a professor of philosophy engaged in writing a sequel to a book of Platonic philosophy while gradually coming to realize that he now has an altered philosophical perspective that is not completely compatible with his previous work. This new perspective is related to a psychological mystery involving the Professor, a strange new tenant in his home, and his past relationships with his father and uncle.
The Professor's story is told through the medium of fiction. Every other chapter of the book is a chapter of non-fiction, of straight philosophy, these chapters constituting a draft of the professor's intended second book, entitled Sophia and Philosophia.
One need not have read Pure or Plato and Nietzsche to follow The Thinker-Artist. It is related to these books as noted, but it can be understood and enjoyed on its own.

What is a philosopher? Why doesn't anyone ask questions like this anymore? Is it still love of wisdom or is it love of producing pedantic works of mind twisting logic and obscure name dropping? Mark Anderson is pursuing wisdom with this new work. The Thinker Artist is a semi-biographical, somewhat cathartic, sometimes psychedelic, fierce, biting work of philosophy and fiction all in one. Dr. Anderson presents the difficulties and challenges of adolescence, young adulthood, inner identity, and philosophical integrity in the 20th and 21st centuries. This is obviously a work by someone who doesn't just do philosophy in the classroom or in publications that serve as academic chest pins. This is a passionate, personal, and holistic approach to living philosophy.
