Temple Grandin is one of the world’s most accomplished and well known adults with autism. She has a PhD in animal science from the University of Illinois and is a professor at Colorado State University. She is the author of six books, including the national bestsellers Thinking in Pictures and Animals in Translation. Dr. Grandin is a past member of the board of directors of the Autism Society of America. She lectures to parents and teachers throughout the U.S. on her experiences with autism, and her work has been covered in the New York Times, People, National Public Radio, and 20/20. Most recently she was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people of the year. The HBO movie based on her life, starring Claire Danes, received seven Emmy Awards.

interesting people, but not a valuable resource

I generally enjoy Grandin, and thought the dialogue with Cowen would produce an interesting juxtaposition of ideas. But this feels more like a random conversation by people with an interesting background than a considered exploration of information analysis and problem solving. I hoped to get a lot more out of reading this, and so was disappointed. Some of the language was also vague and hard to follow. It was a superficial treatment including many irrelevant topics such as tv shows. It's hard to believe that anyone would PLAN that as what they wanted to say on this topic.

I grabbed this book because it was a conversation between economist Tyler Cowen and Temple Grandin

Temple Grandin is huge for having been able to teach parents of autistic children what their children are experiencing. Tyler says that autistic people have been able to economically contribute over the ages; there are certain historical figures who can be armchair diagnosed as autistic.

This was an interesting read from the perspective of people living the situation. Thought it was neat to see it from their point of view.
