AMZeTek version is terrible, not the real thing

I got the package of three from AMZeTek, having not read the reviews very well.

These are definitely not the real thing. The soft types are too squishy to be useful, and the rough one is a) so rough that I'm getting a callus on my index finger and b) already wearing out after less than a month.

Next time I'm saving trouble and just buying direct from Lenovo, despite the even more outrageous price.

Update: I did so, and, yeah, the difference is clear. Much more durable and functional. The legit package is 6 for $10, and the packet had a barcode and part number printed on it. The AMZeTek package contained three (lower quality, as described) caps and was completely clear and unmarked.

Wrong description, will only get 3 caps total, not 2 of each (6) as claimed under "about this item"

I only received one of each style (3 total).

But at least they're original Lenovo caps.

First problem: The product description page states "...includes two of each of our classic styles...". I received a set of three (as opposed to a set of six). I figured "whatever, what do you want for $4".

Second, problem: My real beef with this product (as sold by 3CLeader at least) is that the quality of the material it's made from is terrible. I highly doubt that this product is "by Lenovo" as the page states. I wanted the Soft Rim cap in particular and that cap had a small tear at the bottom which means the cap doesn't grip the joystick underneath as well as it should, there's a lot of extra travel. Apart from that, the material used is not the same as the OEM. It's much more shiny, slippery and malleable and all of those qualities are the exact opposite of what I want in a Trackpoint cap.

I ended up purchasing a 15 pack of the Soft Rim caps that appear to be genuine OEM caps for $8.00 on eBay.

I ordered another set in 2015 and I instead received 3 of the modern dome caps only. I am fairly certain these are not Lenovo official (the rubber feels thinner). Product not as advertised.

To clarify, this is a total of 3 caps, one in each style. The description was ambiguous, seeming to indicate 6 total in some spots, and 3 total in others. Oh, well....welcome to Amazon, home of the shiny green suit.

Better descriptions = more stars.

Caps work fine, even though trackpoints are kind of old fashioned. It's kind of like using an Atari joystick to control your computer. You lose all of the gestures that can be done on a nice trackpad, like on a mac.

Easy to install on my ThinkPad

One of each style, as detailed in John Williamson's review (even though the review is from 5 years ago, nothing has changed). I personally prefer the crunchy "cat's tongue" style of cap, and it tends to wear out rather quickly -- skin oils, dirt, etc. tend to stick to it, and it starts to smooth out (and get kind of gross), so it needs to be replaced. When it's new out of the bag, there's nothing better. Well, as far as index finger mousing goes.

I really wish I could just buy a big bag of just the crunchy cat's tongue caps. (Ew. Crunchy cat's tongues. Is that like pork rinds?)
