Amazing Deal!!

Tried to find the Blu-Ray drive for my T410s from Internet. The availability is so few and pricing are VARY (most are EXTREMELY HIGH). Luckily I found here.

The Model# (43N3230) is not the parts number for T410s from the maintenance manual. However in another document (also from Lenovo website) said it was compatible with T410s. So I gave it a try, especially the price is so attractive.

I just got this package about half hours ago. It comes with the original Lenovo package with original seal. When I open the package, everything sealed very well, with complete items (bag, driver disc, manual, etc). The FRU# is 45N7459, BINGO, just the right parts number in the maintenance manual. So I guess it is just the right one for T410/420/430 series.

Install is very easy, just power off Laptop and swap it. I didn't do hot-swap for play safety though. But most ThinkPad user should be very familiar with the UltraBay device change, right? Also did some test and seems function well. Will do some more test later on. Since I don't plan to use this for heavy-duty work, so I'm pretty ok with it for now.

Based on the price and the package quality, I will highly recommend for ThinkPad user like me to get this one, if you are willing to get a Blu-Ray drive for your UltraBay. Just be careful to check with Lenovo website for the compatibility. Again, an Amazing Deal!!

9.5mm Slim Blu-Ray Burner

I bought this drive to add Blu-Ray capability to a new Sony Vaio laptop. Since it was configured to fit in a Lenova/Thinkpad, I removed the attachment hardware and faceplate/bezel from the existing non-Blu-Ray drive which came in the laptop and attached it to this one. It fits and attaches perfectly and works just as expected. Of course, I also added Cyberlink Media Suite 10 Ultra to provide the software required to play Blu-Ray movies. As advertised, the drive is simply that, a bare OEM drive in a box. If your computer doesn't already have needed software, you need to buy it. Don't fault the drive for your misunderstanding.

My only wish is that the drive were a little faster. It works perfectly for Blu-Ray and other movie playback needs, but for disk burning, it could be a little faster. Maybe I'm just a little impatient.

Works great on ThinkPad X220 with UltraBase

This drive is the OEM for IBM ThinkPads with the UltraBay Slim SATA drive bay. I popped it into the UltraBay attached to my ThinkPad X220 running Mint 14 upon receipt, and the drive showed up right away. It works fine for both burning and reading discs on Mint (and Ubuntu 12.10 by proxy, since Mint is based on it). It's somewhat slower than my USB Blu-Ray burner (only 2x for reading and burning burning BD discs), but since it's so thin that's to be expected.

Installation DVD was included, which also had docs in PDF format on it. Also included carrying case. Seems to be packed exactly as originally sold by Lenovo. Reads and writes all recordable discs, just like it says on the tin. Not sure why Lenovo stopped making these.

Useful upgrade from DVD drive

I bought this to use with my X201 ultrabase, to watch blu ray movies on the laptop. Installation is straightforward: just slide the DVD drive out and slot this new drive in. Works as expected. I bought this at $155, which is acceptable for me.

The best thing is, I can probably pop it out and use it on my next Thinkpad.

Works great, except for Blu-Ray video codec

This dive works just as expected (reads Blu-Ray, DVD, CD, ... just about all formats). I just wish they would have included a codec installation disc that enables me to watch Blu-Ray movies, as I have just found out now that all current operating systems (Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8; Mac OS X) don't include the codec necessary to decode the Blu-Ray video format. I looked around online, and it turns out that buying a Blu-Ray video codec alone costs around $100, and at the moment, I don't have enough Blu-Ray movies to justify that cost. It would be cheaper for me to re-purchase all movies in DVD format, albeit I would be watching at 480p instead of 720p (which is the limit of the display on my laptop).

Bought this to fit to a Sony Vaio z series VPCZ12V9E/X with 13.1" screen (European version). The Lenovo drive fits the Sony vaio Z nearly perfectly with some dismantling of top cover, bezel swap is easy and the drive is a UJ242 with a 1.1 firmware. Because its a Lenovo branded UJ242, the Vaio Z top button eject works perfectly. All in all an excellent purchase, highly recommended as these are superb blu ray players, so good I bought a spare one :-)
