Great book for practicing fluency with young readers - perfect for homeschoolers
on November 23, 2017
As a first grade teacher, I consider this book a must have. It contains nearly every phoneme, blend, and vowel-consonant pattern that young readers need to practice with. The fun illustrations keep kids engaged and the usage of "near-nonsense" words such as "Zans" forces students to practice their decoding skills. There isn't really a story to this book, but that doesn't detract from its charm and usefulness in the classroom.
The book is a bit long so I have students read 5-6 pages at a time when practicing fluency.
If you are homeschooling your primary students, a boxed set of Seuss books is easily worth huindreds of dollars worth of practice readers that other companies try to sell.
