When I read the blurb and saw that Cory had issues and was raised by his abusive father I just had to give this a read because you know how I love an underdog hero who fights against the odds. Cory didn't disappoint :-) I loved him. He has an attraction to redheads, although he doesn’t know why. When he sets fire to his ex’s trash can after she dumps him, he has a choice, be tried as an adult, or attend Starkfield Academy for troubled kids. He chooses the latter. Kira also has issues, she has a friend who just happens to be a ghost. Given the choice of therapy, or Starkfield Academy, she chooses the Academy.
I was immediately drawn in by the author’s writing style. The story was interesting and mysterious. It kept me guessing and wanting to turn the pages to find out what happened next. A lot happened towards the end of the book, some of which I found confusing, and I would have liked to know more about Kira’s ghost and why he followed her around, but maybe that will be explained in a future book.
This was an enjoyable read which I recommend to anyone who enjoys a paranormal tale with a touch of romance. I would read more from this author. I received a free copy in exchange for my honest review.
Cory had a rough life. Losing his mother in a car accident and being abused by his father made him into who he is today. He is hotheaded and has been in trouble with the law a few times. When he finds out that his girlfriend cheated on him because he isn't good enough to fit into her rich life he sets their trashcans on fire. He feels the rage inside of him but he tries to control it before it totally gets out of hand. This time he can't walk away unharmed. He has a choice to go to Starkfield Academy or to be charged as an adult for his crimes. He chooses to go to Starkfield Academy. He's always known he wants more out of life and has always studied hard at school. Going to a boarding school would be perfect for him.
Thirst is a fast-paced story. R.P. Channing made it easy reading material with just enough information to make you turn the pages so you can find out more about Kira and Cory. There are also beautiful photos to give you a picture of some of the characters. This was such a big bonus for me. Whenever I am reading I am visualizing every detail of the story. This might not make me the fastest reader, but it makes it so much easier for me to connect with all the characters. Because of the fact that I didn't have to make up my own images it gave me more time to really get into the story.
Thirst: Blood of my Blood has it all; demons, ghosts, vampires and immortals. This book really is a gem and will keep you on edge of your seat until the end.
The story was mysterious almost till the weary end. It was luring me to know more and more, to cast the light on the dark parts in my mind and to finally brighten the story.
From the beginning we know that Kira and Cory are destined to be together but we don't know why and it was interesting to reveal how they were part of history six hundred years long.
They end up in the same private school where strange things begin to happen.
I will leave this review spoiler free so it will be short, but in the end I'm giving it four star review cause it was fast, interesting and light read but I felt that some parts were a bit rushed and needed an extra work on it.
This story started off strong but then started with its back and forth between the past and the present. I would just get used to one way and the book would switch off to another which left the book a little off kilter for me. I think it would have been better with a little less back story and more present.
For all its back and forth the book was fast paced and the plot was amazing! R.P. Channing's told a story of lovers century's old and living their lives again and again, and people who would stop at nothing not even their own deaths to win a war centuries long.
Brenda was defiantly my favorite of the characters she had heart, spunk and everyone could use a best friend like her.
There is a point of the novel which is a battle/kidnap situation. I confess, I found it extremely confusing, and had to re-read sections because it was so difficult to follow at points.
However, this is ultimately a good premise for a series, and the struggles I had with this book do not deter me from looking forward to the next release.
