George W. Bush should read it at least once a week.
Anyone who lived through the "Cuban Missile Crisis" will benefit. And even more so, all those
who did not suffer through those thirteen days will be glad to understand that intelligent and
wise leaders can avoid nuclear holocaust.
Eisenhower was right about the military/industrial complex. This book offers a spell-binding
moment by moment---thriller, almost---account of the most terrifying time of my life.
Should be required HS reading, and indeed, for most Americans, especially today's ridiculously foolish politicians, who have no real talent for diplomacy despite their constant use of catch phrases like "exhausting all diplomatic sooutions" and other such claptrap.
150 pages of real world diplomacy, a life & death chess game that JFK won, and literally saved the world from a nuclear annihilation scenario.
A powerful historical commentary by a man who was part of the process.
Top reviews from other countries
I found Kennedy to be an individual who sought the opinions of those who opposed him, to measure his own views against and to ensure that all sides of the arguments were considered before making a decision - especially one of this magnitude.
I recommend this to anyone remotely interested in modern politics or US politics.
Otherwise the main reprint text is fine and an important part of the historical record.
