Thirteen: A Novel (Eddie Flynn, Book 3) Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 20,285 ratings

2019 Hudson Booksellers Best of the Year

The serial killer isn’t on trial. He’s on the jury.

It’s the murder trial of the century. And Joshua Kane has killed to get the best seat in the house - and to be sure the wrong man goes down for the crime. Because this time, the killer isn’t on trial. He’s on the jury.

But there’s someone on his tail. Former conman turned criminal-defense attorney Eddie Flynn doesn’t believe his movie-star client killed two people. He suspects the real killer is closer than they think - but who would guess just how close?

Praise for Thirteen:

“A brilliant, twisty, ingeniously constructed puzzle of a book. Steve Cavanagh pulls off an enviable premise with panache.” (Ruth Ware)

“Outstanding - an intriguing premise, a tense, gripping build-up, and a spectacular climax. This guy is the real deal. Trust me.” (Lee Child)

“A dead bang BEAST of a book that expertly combines Cavanagh’s authority on the law with an absolutely great thrill ride. Books this ingenious don’t come along very often.” (Michael Connelly)

Throughly enjoyed! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I didn’t read the other books prior to this one in the series before starting it. Honestly, you don’t have to in order to follow along. I throughly enjoyed this book. The chapters are short and you’re drawn into the story immediately. For lack of better words - this story is nuts! Highly recommended.

Trusted review media let me down (PW, I'm talking to you! - Starred Review -- really?). Pros: fast paced, did want to finish, plot twists surprised me, some clever concepts and procedural business; somewhat interesting sidekicks and minor characters. Cons: cartoonish, flat main characters I didn't care about; average writing quality (nothing offensive, but nothing to love stylistically either); two main characters feel like composites from every better book about lawyers and serial killers ever written; although this takes place in NYC there is no authentic flavor of NYC to it, and I say that as someone who actually lived on W 88th St, which is a location in the book; finally, it drove me crazy that one of the plot devices comes directly from Silence of the Lambs WHICH THE AUTHOR DOESN'T MENTION! Imagine making a movie with a sled named Rosebud but never mentioning Citizen Kane. This I find perplexing and distracting.

Let’s start with the fact that that there was no real dull moment in this book with all the twists and turns. It constantly makes you think if the killer will actually be caught because Kane is a sneaky mf but Flynn is catching such tiny details that others would miss. At no point did I know how this was going to end but the closer to the end you get, the more your jaw drops opens because excuse me WHAT JUST HAPPENED.
I would definitely recommend this read!

Such a flip - had you guessing from page to page! Loved this read! Did not read in order, but this felt more of a standalone so you can start here!

The only reason why I ordered this book is because of the title, it picked my curiosity and I couldn't stop myself but buy "Thirteen: The serial killer isn't on trial, he is in jury" From the POV of someone whose reading habit depends on mood and content of the book, I loved it! Even if the tale is make-believe, this book is well written and I'm a sucker for such mystery, thriller books.
