Still inspired by Lucy Mangan's "Bookworm" which I read in 2020, I am continuing to revisit books from my childhood and to explore some children's books written subsequently. This is definitely a book for the younger market (the suggested age range of 12-16 seems appropriate) but that doesn't prevent it from having a fast moving plotline with plenty of excitement and tension, especially in the second half of the book. The protagonists, Adam (significantly for the plot, born at the instant the new millennium began) and his friend Megan, were convincing in their 13 year olds' behaviour; like any of us, regardless of age, they did not always make the right decisions.

The book ends with a cliff hanger (my literary pet hate) but not one which absolutely requires the purchase of the next book, since a significant level of resolution has been reached.

Not only is the book amazingly written, but its also an eyecatcher. it's a great book...Totally a must read. About a cult called 'the people' trying to kill thirteen year old Adam Grant because they think of him as an imposter trying to destroy the world as he was born at the streak of midnight on the first day of a new millennium, exactly 2000 years after the birth of the imposter before. According to the cult he should be killed before he becomes a man, before he turns 14. This is Adam's story trying to escape from the wicked plans of the cult along with the help of his very faithful friend, Megan.

April 2000, a cult known as the people run by someone called the Master wanted all children born at midnight in 1999 killed, Coron who spoke for the Master searched for the children, Adams mother could not cope with him and placed him at what she thought was the Hospital steps, Adam was adopted and he was now thirteen, he had a best friend Megan, all the children born that night were murdered one by one, the only chil left was Adam but they couldn't find him

Adam was aware he was being followed but had no idea why, Coron wanted to sacrifice Adam before his 14yrs Birthday, if he or any of the cult managed to capture him it would be done, if Coron managed this he had been promised world domination, if Adam made 14yrs the power would go to him

I fell in love with this book from the first page. I read it in one sitting and couldn't put it down. The plot is much darker than I had expected, and could be enjoyed by older readers who like books such as the Maze Runner and Divergent series. I would probably recommend this book for readers aged 12 + but a lot of older teens would probably enjoy this book too. It has a gripping and original choice of storyline, a good pace with plenty of plot twists and surprises to keep you on the edge of your seat. There are some lovely characters (as well as some brilliantly written villains), and plenty of opportunities to laugh as well as cry and a deliciously unexpected cliffhanger at the end. I will definitely be buying the sequel to this book!
