Not only the best work yet produced in the manosphere, but probably one of the best collection of essays I've read. Quintus feels like a throwback to a more civilized age, and the prose style is not what you commonly find these days. There is a lot of ground covered here: history, philosophy, war, literature, and other things, but the emphasis is always on man's responses to pressure and adversity. I think this is why some of these gems are so inspiring. My favorites are the essays on Ernst Junger, on John Paul Jones, on how a man should reveal his opinions, and the essay on barbarism. Some of the opinions are startling, but others are profound. You even get the sense of mystical overtones running through some of the content. Do yourself a favor and dip your toes in these waters.

This book helped to enlighten me in ways that not many other writers today have. Quintus' essays on life, philosophy and spirituality give for spectacular advice on how to live and will inspire you to study philosophy. His writing is superb and not one paragraph should go unread, for each one of his thoughts will raise a different question or point of view that you hadn't considered before. One of the best reads I've had in a while.

A fascinating collection of short philosophical essays on Masculinity. The main thrust of the work uses a historical framework of examining the lives of great men whilst considering what universal, time-transcendent truths can be gained from their experiences - both successes and failures - that can then be applied to the mental framework of the modern man. Whilst the men discussed are chosen from diverse backgrounds and historical periods, masculinity unites all. The philosophical themes arise so naturally and seamlessly from the discussion of great lives lived, that you could convincingly-argue two viewpoints: that the man suggested the theme, or that the man was chosen to illustrate the theme. This unification of purpose means the collection rock solid in its intention.

Interspersed throughout these are essays with a more direct thrust - considerations of philosophy, art, language, and self-improvement. These reveal Curtius' character as a Renaissance Man, driven by a relentless curiousity about the world, with a desire to challenged by life, and thus experience it through both glory and disgrace. With his passion of aiming to be a Great Man, a Mythic Framework for the book arises: a common thread throughout masculine societies that inspires men to live sincere, adventurous lives of genuine experience by stepping beyond their comfort zone, thus gaining mental resilience and wisdom.

As such, these essays fill a much-needed void in masculine self-improvement beyond simple concerns of wealth, popularity, power or sexual success that highlight Curtius' interest in Stoicism: how does a man become a deeper, wiser man?

An excellent work. My personal favourite: 'The March Of Worldly Wisdom'.

Return of Kings was just a fuzzy memory (I had reviewed founder Roosh V's book Bang Ukraine a couple of years back) until I read Ann Sterzinger's excellent write up on this book on Taki Magazine. I bought it yesterday and couldn't put it down.

Today I read a few articles on Return of Kings. They are good, but Quintus Curtius has to be about the best. This review is therefore just what it says - a take on his 37 essays, and a bit of an aside on a phenomenon of which I've only recently become aware, the "manosphere."

Most of the 37 essays deal with what it is to be a man. Curtius draws on classic sources, most significantly the Stoics, in his attempt to define what a man should be.

Virility, courage and resolve, perhaps best distilled into the single word "character," define a man in Curtius' world. Many of his essays focus on endurance and physical bravery: World War I hero/writer Ernst Jünger, people who survived catastrophes by sheer force of will, and those driven to prove themselves such as the tunnel rats of Vietnam.

Other essays address resolve in getting things done despite the pettifoggery, log rolling and indifference of those around them. The epic search for John Paul Jones' corpse, and that of Everest climber George Mallory. The fights to publish an authentic anatomy of the human body, and photographs of the Civil War. These efforts took courage of a different kind. It took men with the intellect to understand the importance of their missions, and the resolve to carry them out, often over thankless decades of toil.

Quintus only partially addresses the question of how a society forms such men.

Superb. Quintus is both a modern day renaissance man and an essayist of the highest order. He is utterly brilliant, but is somehow able to explore and explain philosophical and social concepts in accessible language. Read one of his essays and you shall become hooked....

Quintus is quietly the best writer in the manosphere and here he produces a book that proves it. Thirty Seven has something for every man. From the lessons of great men throughout history, to film recommendations, it covers a wide variety of topics in a way that can only be accomplished by Quintus in his distinct style.

Highly recommended.
