As you open this book you're hit with a beacon of light and that light is knowledge. From Islamic Golden age wisdom to the Western European Christian enlightenment, you have a dose of the wisdom of men who conquered the world with their light. These men influenced their people, influenced other people and were a stepping stone for the maturation of the worlds ideas as we have today.
This book is great for a reader in need of a little kick and motivation. It provides the men of this time with wisdom and passion to enjoy what they do to the fullest. I personally learnt many things from history in this book and use my highlighter to underline then research the personalities mentioned in "Thirty Seven".
Stand up, take your lumps, and remain standing, and never waiver. How can we continue to take lump after lump and somehow not waiver? We can look up at the stars, come up with some neo cosmic ideology to make us drift way in meaningless make believe, not much different than daydreaming except you managed to attach some faux mysticism to an empty void, all on a quest to remain standing and take your lumps. Or you can read Thirty Seven: Essays On Life, Wisdom, And Masculinity.
This is an incredibly well-written collection of essays covering a mixture of history, philosophy, positive masculinity and reflection. Definitely meant to be read more than once and referred to as a sort of handbook, this book provides lessons on character and morality (often within historical contexts) that will benefit readers of any age. 2/3 of the way through the book I purchased a copy for my father. Many of the historical references are lesser known, proof to Quintus' depth of knowledge and study.
I am in my twenties and firmly believe men in their twenties need as many positive male role models with relevant life experience we can get in this day and age. Quintus with his blog, podcast, and collection of publications serves this role and does so for the benefit of his readers/listeners. Thanks to Quintus for the work and care put into this work!
