Very well written and a must read for every young person thinking about entering the music business, from performer, to writer, to producer, to manager, to distributor. The book is full of great advice, in an easy to read format that can serve as a ready-reference for any applicable business dealings or considerations. I have given a couple of these books out as gifts and the feedback from the recipients remains positive!!!

I am feeling like an ultimate pro and insider on the biz... this book is absolutely a gem for anyone wanting to clearly understand the music business!!! love it... The author gives it us without holding back! It's absolutely great to have this book as a resource whether you are a pro or novice in the biz. It's very rare that an attorney would take the time to gather such in-depth information to provide such knowledge... If you can't get to the author the at the very least get his book and you'll be equipped with the information to make wise decisions "this business of urban music." I believe James Walker wrote this book because he knows too many that have been "robbed" simply because they did not have the knowledge...

I haven't read the book totally but so far I learned a lot about recording contract clauses, managment and group signing. I'm on the 60th page. The book is filled with a lot of content and the author seems very experience and knowledgable with the industry. I think you should buy this book to prepare yourself if you're an artist because there were things I didn't even know like the idea thta the record lable is just like a bank that gives a loan and you have to pay them back, owning your masters and things of that nature. This book is a good foundation for your knowledge in the industry.

This book was more than an advice book on the music industry. It really broke down business concepts and explained the reason behind a lot of things that I did not know.
