This was a very fun book to read at holiday time. The crazy family dynamics was quite fun. And having house full of strays, both human and animal was hoot. The love, sadness, and miscues fed the story nicely but I feel more needed to be done. All in all it was a good book!
At some points it was easy to guess where the story was headed though.
THIS CHRISTMAS is a fun, light read. The characters are well drawn and endearing, and Karina Gioertz does a great job describing Anna's eccentric family and the town where she lives. There are plenty of hilarious situations--such as Anna trying to seem casual as she camps out in the dining room in hopes of catching Lindsay under the mistletoe.
I do question the author's choice to alternate between Anna's point of view and Lindsay's. While this allows the reader to know a lot more than Anna about what was really going on, it undercuts the romantic tension and basically gives away the book's outcome right away. This might not have been an issue in a longer book, because there would have been the opportunity for other complications to add some twists along the road to happily ever after. But in such a short book with one main question--does Lindsay share Anna's feelings--there really is only room for one main viewpoint.
Still, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to readers interested in a cute love story.
A lovely quick read during the holiday season, the odd family dynamic made for a humorous read. I did wish that the characters had gotten their acts together sooner to get a more forward story for everyone. Or at least other companion book to delve further into each of the couples in the future and reactions from other people.
