About the Author

Born in Northern England and raised in the Wild West, Sierra Cartwright pens book that are as untamed as the Rockies she calls home. She's an award-winning, multi-published writer who wrote her first book at age nine and hasn't stopped since. Sierra invites you to share the complex journey of love and desire, of surrender and commitment. Her own journey has taught her that trusting takes guts and courage, and her work is a celebration for everyone who is willing to take that risk.

I found this book hard going. It was possibly more realistic than others I have read. Shows that for me the escapism I enjoy with reading requires a bit more romance and fluff than serious pain.
So, to sum up, very detailed in the how too and the why for's, however not enough fun, laughter and romance for me

Holy Hotness Batman!! I remember reading Sierra's Dangerzone from the Hawkeye Series. ( I constantly re-read it, because woozer that Dom is hot!!) It's a good, well written story & it flows well, the characters were realistic and very good together. So when she mentioned that she had gotten her author's copies in of her newest book, I was all over it. My only other information about the story was "do you like hardcore BDSM"?? Do I ??!! Hell Yeah!! O_o I do have to say was good Goddess it is HOT!!

I'm glad I had no preconceived notions about the book, but then the book would have kicked them to the curb anyway. It's only a little less than 200 pages. It took me 3 days because life just kept intervening. Sierra managed to do an introductory BDSM while showing the possibilities of sub life, she captured just how (boring) & necessary all the talking can be while still making it erotic not an easy task but one that is done rather well if you ask me. Master Marcus did well in showing Julia the different types of types of relationships that were there & allowed her to set the pace while still being the Dom.

That first scene at the wedding was both touching & hilarious because of Julia's reaction. Her inner monologue sounded a lot like mine, which is probably why I like her so much. I liked that she was willing to take a chance & learn something new.The scenes between Julia & her Dom were good, I mean really good ( and realistic).

I really enjoyed the play between the two main characters. The inner turmoil that the heroine has about the relationship is so very familiar to any woman who has been in bad relationships before and is skittish when the right one comes along.

It is chock full of BDSM and one could be tempted to go page by page and try it out. Super hot, well written and utterly enjoyable.

I give it my five ice cube review to cool down afterwards!
Thanks for a great read!

There were parts of this book I enjoyed while others left me shaking my head. I will probably try another book by the author but will do so with low expectations. It, by not means, was the worst book I've read but I felt there were some fundamental issues with the characters and story line. Reading the same thing over and over about the character does not develop them any further. I also have to raise a brow to the several items: Julia's intro to BDSM was caused by a lie of omission and seems forced, Marcus continually wanting to talk about small situations but avoids the larger ones. There were some scenes in the play where it seemed illogical to call out safewords compared to other scenes.

Overall, I'm just not sure where this one leaves me.

Some books, most often Christian fiction and Sci-fi, contain landslides of exposition in dialogue so that readers can figure things out along with the main character. Giving exposition in dialogue is not a bad approach in small doses, but when it's in a deluge, it comes across very ham-fisted, and this is what happened with this book. So, while parts of this novel were hot and intriguing, especially the first scene--woo, steamy--it got tangled up and stifled by the explanations of how BDSM works. All the dos and don'ts, expectations, blah, blah, blah, just kept coming and coming. That killed a lot of the chemistry and momentum within the work. Like, when Lana shows up after her wedding and interrupts the lovely action going on, I got annoyed. Telling from Marcus right then instead could have been really sexy, but she comes in and it jammed the zapping scene and the connection building between Julia and Marcus. This interruption occurred only to give an education to Julia and the apparently clueless reader, who has no access to Wikipedia.

I also expected more internal struggle from Julia to come to terms. Her conflict was more about ending up with a domineering man and going against her feminist sensibilities rather than any kind of trust issues or shock or leeriness over activities, as most people not yet in touch with their submissiveness or engaged in BDSM would be. You'd figure she'd have more questions in that regard. With This Collar is fun and delicious in spots, and I enjoyed the tension in the end, it just doesn't rank high on my list of You Must Reads!!! because in a lot of places it comes across like a manual. And what makes it feel like that is a lot of the dialogue just didn't seem realistic.
