This is such an awesome book! So many country music pioneers leading to today's popular artists. I am grateful for Dick Clark's vision for the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards show. On my table top for friends to read and enjoy; so many memories... Bought an extra for my friend who goes to the ACM Awards each year with me... LOV IT

This large (9x12 inches) and HEAVY (nearly four pounds!) 224-page volume is a book that most "Country Music" fans will want. I define "Country Music" here as that which is played on "contemporary" comtry music radio stations and that which is "honored" on both the CMA (Country Music Assn) and ACM (Academy of Country Music) annual award shows. Yes, people still know Dolly and Reba and Marty (Stuart, not the late Robbins) though they now show up on these shows for lifetime achievement awards. But among the 300 plus photos - spanning the 50 years of the ACM awards - are artists you'll have to search hard to find on the radio these days. And that's fine with me because maybe younger "country" fans will be curious to seek them out and find their recordings.

A bit of background. The Country Music Association is a Nashville based organization founded in 1958 to promote and preserve Country Music. The ACM was founded six years later in Los Angeles for the purpose of promoting Country (and Western) artists on the West Coast. It is still a west coast-based organization.

Because this is the ACM's 50th anniversary they opened up their archives and produced this book. It is also a fund raiser with - according to their website - "The Academy's proceeds from the book will go to ACM Lifting Lives, the charitable arm of the Academy dedicated to improving lives through the power of music.

The publisher also decided to make it an "interactive" (sort of) scrapbook with repro "backstage passes" and a repro sheet of Loretta Lynn's song "The Pill". These are "cute" but make sure they don't fall out when you look through the book.)

So it you are a Country Music (as defined above) fan and watch the annual awards show each year, I'm pretty sure you'll like this book.

Lisa Lee has hit a grand slam with this beautiful work. It is a great story from the time 4 people got together and thought up the idea all the way to the 50th anniversary of the Academy of Country Music. Besides all the stories OF the artists and stories BY the artists, it is a fantastic photo album of all the great stars throughout the 50 years. There are also MANY ticket stubs and event souvenirs 'taped' inside as if you where there yourself. Beautiful gift for a lot of different people and a must for your own coffee table!
