“From This Day Forward” is a Wedding Belles novella, which launches Lauren Layne’s brand new series about 3 high-powered NYC wedding planners.
This Wedding Belles novella features two prestigious wedding photographers (Leah & Jason) that have both been commissioned to photograph a high-profile wedding together. But there is a little hitch to this arrangement. Leah and Jason once dated, and things ended very, very badly.
Leah is still nursing a broken heart after the demise of their two-month fling. Jason, on the other hand, is angry over Leah’s assumption that he hadn’t abandoned his playboy ways while they were still together. Despite the obvious chemistry between these two, both are stubborn in their belief that the other is at fault. Lack of communication, only serves to further keep this couple apart.
While I am a huge fan of Lauren Layne’s books, I am not a huge fan of stories in which miscommunication is at the root of a couple’s problems. Between Jason’s stubbornness over revealing the truth to Leah and Leah’s unwillingness to hear him out, I found the storyline frustrating. That aside, this novella is a quick, hot little read and a good intro to this brand new series as a whole.
This newest adventure she has embarked upon feels slightly different, to be honest. But in a good way! The only other wedding planner-esque type series I've read was that of Nora Roberts -- and I absolutely enjoyed that group of women. I couldn't help, then, to draw comparisons between the two series.
In this initial novella introducing us to this series, we have a photographer who is friends with one of the founding ladies; she is doing a wedding shoot as a favor and in doing so, she is being paired up with a man she would rather not see ever again.
This second-chance journey Leah and Jason embark upon was a cute, sweet romance. Leah has proven to be a bit of a runner -- she's not one to stick around for explanations. Just when things start to feel like they're going somewhere, she puts on the brakes and pushes back hard. It was her inability to stand back and fight for what she wanted that had me upset with her on a few occasions. Jason has a cocky front that he puts up, but he was truly an easy guy to get along with, and therefore read about, as the story progressed.
Leah and Jason both had hurt feelings, hurt pride, and broken hearts; watching them as they finally found the middle ground they so needed was enjoyable. It wasn't my favorite LL book, but the series has potential.

In this short read, we're introduced to two of the three Wedding Belles partners along with the heroine and hero, their go-to wedding photographers. Leah and Jason burned hot and bright before their relationship imploded. In this story we see if they're able to overcome past misunderstandings and find their HEA. I was expecting a cliffhanger, so was pleasantly surprised.
The only downside to this novella is that it makes me yearn to read book one more than ever. We didn't get to meet the third partner, Brooke, so I'm anxious to meet her and also get to know the other Belles much better in To Have and to Hold. Is it July yet?
Photographer Leah McHale’s career is about to get a boost as she works with elite wedding planners, the Wedding Belles on the biggest wedding of the year that is sure to put them all in the spotlight. The only downside to this assignment is that she has to work with her ex-boyfriend, something she would prefer not to do in view of how they became exes, but she's a professional and will put the personal issues to the side. Besides, it's only for three days and she just has to avoid him for that long.
Jason Rhodes made a big mistake when he let his pride get in the way and let Leah walk away a year ago, and now that they are working together he won't pass up this chance to get her back, but can they learn to trust each other? Can they learn to communicate openly, instead of jumping to conclusions about each other?
The intensity of the passion and emotions between Leah and Jason will have you rooting for them to get their happy ending. The push and pull between them is just enough to keep the story interesting but not too much as to tip it over into annoying territory. I'm really not a fan of novellas because I like my stories long enough to fully develop the characters, but there is enough here to keep it interesting.
Once again Ms. Layne has what promises to be a winning series on her hands and I can't wait to get started on the first book in the series.

I just felt that this book fell flat. Rhodes and Red both had potential, but instead felt 2D instead of 3D. No depth and I felt no connection as a reader. It is an okay book, but this author is so much better than this.
