Claire Ridgway is a natural storyteller. It is clear that her passion for history and its retelling in a contemporary and engaging way is unique. "This Day in Tudor History" is a massive tome full of narrative on events of the Reformation, including the rise of the Church of England, Elizabeth I's Golden Age, and the works of Shakespeare. Ridgway organized her research around the calendar year which makes it easy to find a specific event or person. In addition, the book can be read cover-to-cover and used for everything from competitions to the classroom.

Ridgway's voice sets this apart from any other authoritative work on Tudor history. She retells the stories as if she were sitting across from you at a café. The tone is light, informative, and knowledgeable. Fans of the author know her best from The Anne Boleyn Files and they will find this book indispensable. In addition, readers finding Ridgway through "This Day in Tudor History" will undoubtedly go back and read her other titles.

Just today, I discovered that events surrounding Guy Fawkes on the 5th of November (1605) had their origins in Elizabeth's reign. If you want to know more behind this story, and others, get "This Day in Tudor History" and impress your friends!

This is a great addition to any Tudor history lover's book collection. This book was extremely well researched and well-written. Each day of the year includes a list of events during all six memorable Tudor monarchs' reigns (Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI, the ill-fated nine-day queen, Jane Grey, Mary I, and Elizabeth I) while also including some of their fellow European kings and queens, namely Catherine de Medici, Charles V, Mary Queen of Scots, and James V of Scotland. Claire includes key dates, events, (and deaths) for all Henry's wives, whatever your favorite wife may be. It's an excellent resource, and as Claire mentions, appropriate for teachers, students, and pretty much anyone looking to learn more about one of the most fascinating and influential times in history. It also serves as a bridge for those interested in the Plantagenets and Stuarts. This book would make a great gift and is highly recommended for almost any age group. Another great addition to the Claire Ridgway Tudor book series!

Lots of interesting information but odd format. Author presents everything that happens on each particular day. So, for example there are several different entries for Jan 1st but it covers the late 1400's to the mid 1500's. It's difficult to remember who was the King on each particular year at times. You would need to know a great deal of English history to be able to enjoy this book as it is presented. Would have much preferred a yearly progression on information. That being said it was a good read once I got used to it and would recommend it to any good student of the times.

I guess I expected a review of the Tudors giving a day aby day account of events. Instead, this is a 365 (366?) day calendar. On each day there may be several events for differing years. I guess it is fun to look up what happened on your birthday, but that fun only lasts for a few days.

I appreciate that a lot of time went into creating this biook but I am not sure of the use for it.

This is a great way to stay in touch with the Tudor times and to remember important dates. This can be done daily or just go to the current day if you were too busy and missed a day or two. Very informative.

I absolutely love this book! I am very much a history buff, I like all kinds of history, but my are of specialty in Tudor England. This book is a great resource for anyone who is studying during this time period. I run a couple of history pages on facebook so this is a great resource to have on hand. Plus I just like looking through it and seeing what events happen on certain date. The book follows the 12 month calendar and tells certain events that happened on each day. She doesn't give out dates she also goes into detail about the events as well which I really like. At the beginning of the book she names and gives dates to different Tudor Holidays that they celebrated during that period. She also names and give dates of reigns to the monarch's ruling all the way to James VI ( Basically houses of Tudor and Stuart). I would recommend this book to anyone, especially if your new to Tudor history, I am not good at dates though I have been studying this period for a few years now, this really helps me a lot. All I can say is if your a fan of history/Tudors/Stuarts this is a must buy. You won't regret it.

I liked the way it went day by day to tell the events that happened in Tudor history. It doesn't read like a list or a timeline, but more like a novel. It was well done. It was kind of cool to look up what happened in Tudor history on days that are significant to me.

I love anything and everything about the Tudor dynasty. With Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, you have two of the most dynamic people in English history.
I recommend this book to anyone who might be an anglophile or just interested in this period of time of England's history.
At the beginning of the book, there is a good breakdown of the Tudor dynasty to give a some background.
Well done!
