Top Customer Reviews

This collection feels like a classic, post-Keats and pre-Beats, impeccably crafted but without the contrivances of formalism. The poems, which manage to be both sumptuous and discreet, reek of otherness and exile and pose universal questions never fully answered. Against powerlessness, forces of nature and acts of God, where is the core of volition? In the obliteration of ideologies and identities, what is left? Is there anything to do in the face of betrayal, isolation, and suffering but carry on? And yet, cumulatively, the poems reveal a singular truth: that beneath loss, doubt, and the ash of an indifferent God, the ember of a moral - and seeking - self burns.

This debut collection of poetry moves from the sacred to the profane and back again, spanning topics as diverse as winter in a trailer park and gods playing poker. A strong voice and superb imagery make for a compelling read.
