I was recently recommended This Extraordinary Life and I have to say I am really glad they recommended it. This is a beautifully touching book that explores the ups and downs, the hits and misses, and the joys and pains of raising a child who has autism or Asperger's. Rachel Quatkemeyer really brings the subject into focus with a lot of care, love, attention to detail and a clear desire to show that no matter the struggles, life is "extraordinary" in it's complexities.
What really captured my attention is the heartfelt and truly authentic tone of the book from beginning to end. This is a work of love and that really shines through; drawing the reader in with words that capture the heart, words that bring strength and words that help to enrich the lives and families of the reader. From the touching stories of those of have experienced raising a child in the Autism spectrum to words of encouragement through inspiring poetry, this is a must read just for the mere fact it is a celebration of life in the best way possible.
Though I'm not a parent of a child in the Autism spectrum or closely connected to one, I do feel like this was a worthy read nonetheless and I would definitely recommend it to others even if you're like me and are just looking for a beautiful book that will touch your heart.
