Editorial Reviews

Tank is one of the most recognizable names in modern R&B, known for vivid storytelling and sensual lovesongs. He's an icon in the making, with four albums and eight Grammy nominations under his belt. He's also a singer who carries the torch of masters like Marvin Gaye and Al Green, while redefining R&B for a new decade.

TANK....First off mann you are the "GENERAL" of R&B! Your song "Underrated" best describes you!...How you manage to spit out hits after hits after hits is truly a blessing from GOD, Please DON'T CHANGE YOUR STYLE FOR ANYONE! This CD is a baby maker, romantic, LET'S TEAR THIS BEDROOM UP! type of music that most so called R&B artist try to duplicate but fail every time! Your perspective from a mans point of view is what is needed in the R&B game and I for one appreciate it! THIS CD IS ON POINT!! WELL WORTH THE PURCHASE!! If you are a true r&b fan then you will love this! I'm a 80's baby where I remember names like Jodeci, Shai, Joe, Dave Hollister and such so Tank madd respect for you! PLEASE KEEP DOING WHAT YOU DO!

As modern as Tank may try to portray himself, Tank's voice hearkens back to `old-school' adult R&B, which is the in the `minority' unfortunately. Regardless of Tank's dismal commercial lot, This Is How I Feel is a stronger showing for the R&B singer than 2010's Now Or Never was. Tank and producers attempt to change the formula ever so slightly by incorporating more hip-hop qualities as well as more overt, sensual lyrics. The effects work, even if at times the innuendo is ever so slightly overwrought. Regardless, Tank remains in sound voice and shines throughout.

The intro "How I Feel (Intro)" sets up the sometimes salacious, self-confident nature of This Is How I Feel from the first line Tank utters claiming he's "...the baddest mother [bleep] in the world..." Despite his overconfidence, the use of harmonized background vocals and lush, urban production work foreshadow the soundness that makes This Is How I Feel so appealing. "Lonely," featuring the ubiquitous Chris Brown is certainly a better collaboration between the two than "Foreplay" was from Now or Never. The production is lush and tailor made to Tank's sensual, romantic voice. Much like the intro, Tank's much more overt and explicit. Certainly the grinding groove incites Tank's inspired performance. The only drawback - the cut is almost five minutes long.

"Your One" is less enthralling than "Lonely," but solid. Soulful guitars and hip drum programming characterize this production. The cut could use some extra finesse though; more background vocals would have energized the cut more.

He delivers once again. Only a few artist never change and it works for them. Tank has to be one of them. He has stayed true to his craft and it shows all over this album. Pushing skip on Tanks album is a no no, every song is on point. Stop procrastinating and get this grown and sexy work of art. #ThatIsAll :)

A solid album but I don't find it to be groundbreaking. It is the type of album that needs to be played multiple times before it grows on you.

On a somewhat side note, given the dire straights of R&B, I think artists such as Tank need to go big and be more bold...the genre is getting quite stale. Most R&B artists have been chasing rap artists for so long that they seem to be more like rappers (i.e. Chris Brown (Strip, Look at me know) than singers.

Tank....where have you been all my life. I usually don't buy full albums. I usually only like the radio cuts and then I'm on to the next. Not the case here. I loved each track, some more than others. Keep up the good work, Tank.

Tank is an amazing artist and this album reflects his talent. He has this sexy, sensual voice that has passion and feeling hiding in it. His music all has meaning and is unlike most music that is out now a days. He is not as well known as he should be for the talent that he has. I have had this CD playing in my car and people will ask me "Who is this? I really like this song." The music always gets people smiling and singing. I love it and I recommend that you add it to your collection of music, especially if you love great music!

Overall, this was a really well put together album ! His voice never fails and this album totally shows off his features as an artist and what he is capable of. I didn't give it the 5th star just because I particularly wanted more deep, slow songs on the album; but instead it is filled with more upbeat music. Other than that, this is a great album, with a great artist and voice !! Can't wait for the next one !!

Even though I was a fan of "Maybe I Deserve", I have no problem admitting that I never paid attention to Force of Nature. I would take the CD out to listen to "Maybe I Deserve" and eventually "Slowly" and the CD ended up collecting dust. Even though I liked the track "One Man", I never purchased the CD and I still haven't heard it 'til this day. When I heard "Please Don't Go", that was my turning point. I bought Sex Love & Pain and I played the CD from beginning to end for a minute. Tracks like "Coldest", "I Hate U", "Heartbreaker", "When", etc. remained in heavy rotation for a minute. I finally revisited "Force Of Nature" and I wondered why I had waited so long to hear the CD. It was pretty good. Tank released Now Or Never in 2010. Tracks like "Sex Music", "Celebration" w/Drake, "I Can't Make You Love Me", "Can I" & "Scream" were my favorites and while "Now Or Never" wasn't "Sex, Love & Pain", it was definitely a good CD. Tank released "This Is How I Feel" in May of 2012. It's clearly evident once the Intro comes on what the theme of this CD will be. I didn't expect the explicit nature of some of the lyrics on here, but if you can get past that, you have a pretty good CD on your hands. Chris Brown joins Tank on my favorite track "Lonely". Tank explains a situation where he just had a relationship that ended and he is attempting to forget his ex by having nights out at the club, drinking alcohol and even getting into new situations with other women.Read more ›
