I could not give this 5 stars because she chose the wrong guy!! She chose the womanizer who had sex with her, knowing all of his coworkers were watching and recording everything. they did. With that ending, it hardly qualifies as a romance..... just sayin'.
But, I was working my way through Tom Hardy's work history via IMDB and saw that this could be rented for a reasonable rate, so one windy day I rented it.
Now, I agree with everything everyone writes about Chelsea Handler if they wrote that she was awful. Her character was obnoxious and crude and filthy. I'm willing to bet I just talked 80% of you into renting and/or buying the movie with that one sentence! Anyway, I didn't appreciate her character AT ALL. But, I filter out the stuff I don't like and move on to what I do like.
I liked Tom Hardy's character in this. It was a different than some of his other stuff. The guy's got "swagger", what can I say? I was routing for him. Chris Pine's character, I'm sorry to say, is like all of Chris Pine's characters. He was handsome, slick, charming and sexy. I'd like to see him do something else, but this was a good vehicle for him. Reese Witherspoon was also "typical", so that made the movie very cute and funny. A typical Rom/Com and what's wrong with that? I liked it so much that I bought the movie after renting it, which is rare for me. Now, I can fast forward past Chelsea Handler and I don't have to deal with her vulgarities. Win/Win in my book.
The premise is simple - two top secret agents botch a covert mission and they get on the radar of the film's antagonist. Then the two agents, best mates, start dating the same girl. Hilarity ensues, along side some mighty fun action and some great film gags. Everyone on screen is, simply put, perfect in creating an absurdly and hardly plausible plot... and it's great!
The special features are fun: a great uncensored gag reel, some opening previs work, commentary (which is quite fun, too), and for the main course - the Alternate Endings. I'll simply say the final Alternate Ending is VERY predictable and quite likely the hardest I've laughed in nearly ten years.
If you like spy cinema mixed with great comedy timing and some really, really likable actors, give this BD a whirl. You're likely to like it, despite the fact that it's something of a date movie. It's just real fun!
