“These chapters of simple advice are easily digestible, and reading one per day is a good way to start this practice. Empowering words for women—especially those struggling with body issues—to regain control of their lives.” (Kirkus)
"Geneen Roth's early work pulled my sister out of the abyss of eating disorders. My gratitude and admiration for Geneen has deepened still with her newest book. In This Messy Magnificent Life, we experience her signature divine wisdom and hilarious humanity—but Geneen also gives us something new and important. Here, Geneen shows us how our individual body and food obsessions are directly linked to our collective oppression as women—and how getting free from our personal prisons is crucial to seeking liberation at every level. This is a beautiful, funny, deeply relevant book -- a vital work for this moment." (Glennon Doyle, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Love Warrior and founder and president of Together Rising )

There's a reason she's such a treasure.” (Dani Shapiro, author of Hourglass: Time, Memory, Marriage and Devotion: A Memoir )

I've been a Geneen Roth fan for many years...not necessarily because of her reputation for writing the truth about overeating but because of her way of synthesizing and putting into words the truth about why we continuously look for the one thing that will make us happy. Guess what? We already have it, and she shows us how to access it. Save yourself from all the diet hype and the refrain of, "If only I had XYZ, I would be happy." It turns out; we have been looking for love in all the wrong places.
This is one seriously brilliant woman who touches us with great humor and insight. A terrific read!
I have followed Green for decades, from the days in which her first book, Feeding the Hungry Heart, changed my life, my relationship with food and myself. This newest book is beautiful, insightful, funny, deeply spiritual, practical, wise. It helped me recognize growth that has happened because of the work started decades ago. I don't have Geneen 's skill to write so eloquently about how the quest for thinness was a disguised search for something infinitely more complex. But I am so grateful to have learned i was desperately seeking the wrong thing...and tobhave learned what was really worthy of the Search. Geneen has written with wisdom and as someone who has been faithful to her own Search.
Geneen Roth’s new work articulates so beautifully what is true about life - living in the present with awareness brings such perspicacity that suddenly life is in technicolor. This guide shows us how to recognize those obstacles that prevent us from being our true selves - the true self that doesn’t need fixed. Thank you for writing another “aha” filled book!
This book is full of the wisdom, humor, stories, and a pathway to one's heart, soul, purpose, body, and everything that matters about being here on earth that Geneen provides to her readers. What makes This Messy Magnificent Life extra special, however, it that it feels like a synthesis of all that Geneen knows. It's so wise. It's so relevant. It's intersectional in that the Geneen addresses food, yes, but this book moves beyond food to the spiritual and to every aspects of one's life. There is not a woman in my life that would not benefit from reading this book---though, I believe men and people of all genders would greatly benefit as well. During this time time of #metoo and addressing the patriarchy and misogyny in the United States, I can't think of a more relevant book that can help all of us to contribute to the change that is clearly on its way.
Geneen’s best book yet! I loved every chapter; each one is a slightly different lesson told in personal and hilarious form. It’s so nice to know I’m not the only one with a crazy Aunt in the attic! Will definitely read again as each paragraph resonated very deeply with me. Definitely recommend it to everyone!
What a beautiful, inspiring read. Once again Geneen takes me into her life and page by page into her heart, revealing what is most important about our messy lives … and how easy it is to grab hold of the freedom that is right here, waiting to be embraced. An honest, touching, funny guide to navigating through this messy world we are living in. I’m giving this one to all the women so dear in my life!
This is now my FAVORITE of Geneen's books......it is accessible, readable and honest - so so honest. Geneen's acceptance of her own humanity makes it easier (less scary) for me to accept my own. What a gift..... This Messy Magnificent Life is wise and entertaining and provocative. I will be giving this as a gift to all the women in my life! Aleemna
