You know when a book is good because you can't stop thinking about it. It's like that guy you like and you obsess and every thing you do is think about it over and over again.
I feel so, so drunk from the written words of this story. Happily wasted.
Surely a book that I've to recommend it to everyone and I'm obliged to review because everybody deserve to know that we must give a chance to this story, because it's a story that stays with you and teaches you many things.
It teaches you that you should never lose hope. Because you don't know whether miracles are going to happen at the last minute.
It teaches that no matter when you've lost in life, there are always second chances.
It teaches you what is love, pure and simple.
I don't usually describe characters in my reviews, I just try to describe how I felt and what I learned from reading it.
Perhaps this isn't the best review you can read, but can I say something, this one is the best book you can read.
Thank you AJ for giving it to me. Thank you for made me feel this story. For the laugh and the tears.
I experienced sadness, joy, hope, pain and so much love.
The love a mother has for her child, a love so strong between two friends
it is hard to know where one ends and the other begins.
The agony of lost love, the promise of newfound love but none as
vital as the love of life.
This is the story of a young woman on the threshold of death reprieved by the gift of life.
I loved how Ava embraced her new life. Everything was new, exciting and beautiful,
to be reborn conscious of the universe for the first time.
I adored the relationship she had with Finn, filled with love and devotion each
one the others lifeline. I loved his wit and outlook on life.
Add in Gabriel Cruz Ava's love interest a mystery at first then a man of words that
curled her toes and warmed her heart.
His accent was like music to my ears it was as he was whispering words of love to me.
“Te amo, mi corazón”
A shockwave hit me when he broke Eva’s heart.
Poems filled with love, loss and pain caused my eyes to tear up and the connection
from past to present took me to an eerie but tranquil place.
I cried, laughed and cheered hoping that love does conquer all.
Subtle sex scenes no smut.
I am lost at words of how to begin this review; this book was a quite pleasant surprise. It is my first book read from this author and I will definitely be on the look out for other work from A. J. Compton.
FIVE SOLID STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“I haven’t even started the journey and I’m already lost”
The journey of Ava Malone, along with her friend Finn, and Gabriel Cruz, an Argentinian poet that will teach her the matters of the heart like you have never read before.
Ava was born with a congenital heart, destined to not grow old; after a 22-years of merely surviving, her journey comes to an end; that is until . . .
“They found you a heart.”
“Come back to us”
“Please, sweetheart, come back to us”
“They found you a heart”
“They found you a heart”
Given a second chance at life, Ava begins her journey to live, to fall in live with life, to get lost, and find herself again. She goes hand in hand with Finn, whom she knows since they were kids, as both practically grew in hospitals (I sincerely hope I get to read Finn’s story in the future, near future preferably). The author gives them a friendship that practically we all want at some point in our lives, calling them just best friends does not do justice to the connection they share. As I was reading, I found this to be refreshing, as usually one reads books about a heroine, a hero, they fall in live and live HEA, and secondary characters just stay like that secondary; not in this case, Finn’s character is substantial to Ava for her to reach her goals.
In comes Gabriel Cruz, a writer, a poet, that him too will be substantial in Ava’s road to self-discovery. He is not estranger to pain and heartache, and you will find out just how much in the poems included, they have sadness yet bring you happiness, and more importantly they have love.
“I would drown myself in you, if I could,
Allow your purity,
To cleanse my soul of sins.”
Through out the story, the author adds poems and quotes that give you that something extra, that something that you hold on while reading because it gives you an insight of what is yet to come and how the story evolves in each passing page. Gabriel becomes an enigma to Ava, a puzzle, yet feels she does not have the time to solve; however, he comes in barging in her life, she does not stand a chance against his words whispered from the depths of his heart. She feels an inexplicable connection to him; it is as if her heart, this new heart of hers, beats in sync with his.
“I always knew this heart belonged to someone else, I just didn’t realize how much.”
A. J. Compton takes us on a roller-coaster of emotions; this connection Ava and Gabriel share takes them to places they have not been, makes them look into their souls and revaluate who they are as individuals, and who they are together as one; is something that can make them feel whole together yet has the potential to break them in irreparable pieces.
“We’re not defined by our hearts.” Or are we?
I truly recommended you to read this book; it is a breathtaking and remarkable story, A. J. Compton is pouring her heart out through the pages, and letting you see her bare soul. Be prepared for an ugly cry; it will make you rub that spot in your chest in hopes to alleviate what you’re feeling for such beautiful characters. 5 ★
Ava Malone gets her second chance at life when she gets a heart transplant. She sets on a journey to explore life, explore who she is, a chance she never had prior to the transplant. She's positive about life, taking each day as it comes. Then she meets Gabriel. A man that's tortured about his past and for him, the only person who brings light into his life is Ava.
It was amazing watching her break down his walls with every spoken word and make his smile with every laughter from her lips.
This Old Heart of Mine is simply stunning. The characters are well developed, each one plays a role in the story.
This story is inspirational. It makes you stop and think about life, about things we all take for granted. Absolutely amazing!
