Michael Moore and Fred Hersch have many in common - their studies at the New England Conservatory in Boston (they were fellow students) and their special kind of making music. Michael Moore performs on the clarinet respectively on the alto sax and Fred Hersch on the Steinway piano. They play a few pieces of music of Thelonius Monk (Four In One) and of Mendenez (Aquellos Ojos Verdes) and of Bittencourt (Doce De Coco). The overweighing rest of the CD contains titles written by Moore (e.g.: Bedtime Story, This We Know, Langrage) and Hersch (e.g.: The Sad Bird, Canzona).
The performance is characterized by a huge variety of moods: It ranges from spectacular sections where Moore can show his extraordinary talents to those pieces of music where Hersch can show his imprssionistic kind of making Jazz which is often very next to classical music. Sometimes, one might feel a kind of film-music, especially in the title song "This We Know" (my personal favourite of this CD). The genious thing concerning this CD is that the listener can enjoy "a perfect match" between Moore and Hersch all the running time of app. 1 hour.
So, the conclusion is: An extraordinary, very, very impressing CD.
