I went into this not knowing who Busy Phillips is and looking more for an inside perspective of Hollywood and what it’s like. I didn’t quite feel I got much of an idea about Hollywood because this book focused more on Busy’s social life, and honestly maybe that’s cuz people in Hollywood are just regular people like everyone else. So my biggest take away was this, actors and actresses are just normal people too, punching a 9 to 5 and hanging out with friends afterwards. I thought the book and Busy seemed eminently likeable and down to earth and it was a wildly refreshing read about someone else’s day to day. But I think Busy fans will get the most out of it and people interested more in the Hollywood aspect might not get the full meat and potatoes. Overall a good read from a talented storyteller and performer.

I started reading this book upon discovering it had been sent to my kindle as a result of a wine-fueled preorder (thanks tipsy me!) I was captivated and stayed up far too late reading it until I quite literally fell asleep with my phone in my hands and the kindle app open. I had loads of laundry to do today and kids to keep alive so I opted to finally download the audible app and listen while I folded. Listening to Busy tell her story was a gift I didn’t know I wanted. (don’t worry, my children were safely in another room thoroughly captivated by peppa pig and kinetic sand). I swapped back over to reading before bed and once again am up far too late but I couldn’t find a point where I wanted to stop. So I didn’t. And now I’ve finished it and am writing my first review on amazon. It’s that good. Keep you up way too late, can’t put it down, finish it but not want it to end so you keep it going by talking about it in a box on the amazon app because everyone in your family is asleep and to be honest they are tired of hearing you talk about Busy Philipps as if you are truly friends and your Instagram relationship is not entirely one-sided.

Suffice it to say, you should buy this book. It’s funny, well written, poignant, relatable, and smart. (Probably many more adjectives as well, but I think it’s best to end it here.)

I've been watching her InstaStories and was excited for this book to come out. First of all, the cover is BOMB! I'm writing a memoir and can't stop thinking that I want my cover to look like this! Anyway, it was an interesting and fun read. Busy cuts through the glow of the Hollywood curtain and tells it REAL. It was surprising the trials and tribulations someone like her goes through and how we as the audience make assumptions on people's success, income, and struggles or lack thereof just because they're on a television show. That said, I just saw that the Queer Eye guys only make $7500/episode. Which for me would be amazing, but geez, compared to other actors on other shows. But I guess it's about the agent, manager and their negotiation skills, and the advertisers as well. But I digress... Busy, you're killing it and living your best life. Thank you!

I love Busy Phillips and I’ve been watching her rise in social media influence with enthusiasm. She seems like a relatable, nice person, and her book shows us more of the same. I enjoyed the book but I did feel that she was holding a lot back though. It’s not really on her though, I tend to feel this way when I read most celebrity autobiographies. It was rather enjoyable to read what she said about James Franco, (spoiler alert: he comes across as a jerk!). If you’re just a casual fan, you probably won’t get a lot of value from this book, but isn’t that the way it is with any autobiography anyway? It was fine.

Within the first few pages of this book, I was sure it wasn't for me. After the first chapter, I was hooked.

I grew up a '90s kid and a big fan of "Freaks and Geeks", but what I loved the most was her recalling her early experiences with actors like Colin Hanks, Rashida Jones, and her friendship with Michelle Williams. It was interesting to hear what life was like before they were famous. There was a nostalgia factor in this book for me as it reminded me a time when I was absorbing pop culture like a sponge and some of my favorite tv and film came out of Busy's starting out era.

I also found ANY excuse to read this book. It will suck you in and the ride is fun, emotional and enjoyable!

I have always liked Busy Philipps. I first came across her as Audrey on Dawson’s Creek and I thought she was fab and sassy from then on. Whilst I have dipped in and out of her career I have always admired how she presented herself in interviews or on her social media accounts.

I really loved her autobiography This Will Only Hurt a Little. Her warts and all account of how she made her way through the miasmic fug of Hollywood and all the ugliness that comes along with it: whether that be the negative body image issues she has had to endure before getting or being rejected for roles or the absolute criminal behaviour over artistic license. Busy Philipps really has seen it all.

Philipps’ candour is impressive. She doesn’t paint herself as completely innocent in all things, in fact it is her ability to show her less pleasant side that actually makes This Will Only Hurt a Little seem more balanced and therefore more believable.

What is also impressive is that she does not hold back when talking about her colleagues. For those who want to know the uglier side of some of her co-stars then I can guarantee Busy Philipps does not hold back.

She spills a bit on the vileness of Hollywood - why anyone would want to be part of that fake industry is beyond me. I quite enjoyed the first half of the book, but by the second half I just wanted to finish it because I was a little bored. I was also really annoyed at the way her husband treated her throughout!

An honest account of growing up, dealing with relationships, not being the prettiest girl in school and dealing with crippling insecurities and anxieties.
