Lewis bases his proof not so much on anecdotal statements but rather on a comparative analysis of Paine's and Jefferson's respective writing styles, phaseologies, and ideologies as well as historical events. Orthodox history is not always accurate!
One may wonder why Paine's authorship of this important document (America's birth certificate)was suppressed. The answer in a nutshell is resentment regarding "The Age of Reason", political intrigues of the time, and Paine's remarkable generosity, integrity, and love of America.
To truly understand early American history requires a knowledge of the life of Thomas Paine who is clearly the ideological leader and architect of American revolution. Perhaps someday in the near future this will be more widely known.
P.S. The obscure 40 cent postage stamp featuring the image of Thomas Paine which was issued by the US Post Office in the 1960's was entirely due to the unceasing efforts of Joseph Lewis.
