Product Description

Product Description

Take-n-Play Hank is a durable die cast engine that features ''Smart Magnets'' that connect either way, and allow you to connect other engines or tender at either the front or the back. Works with Fisher Price Take-n-Play portable playsets. Hank is a big and bold steam engine. He has the enthusiasm of a cheerleader, the strength of a titan and a propensity to be a little goofy! Hank doesn't look like the conventional Sodor Steam Engine - he has lots of bells and whistles. While initially Hank puts the other engines out of joint, they quickly realise that Hank means well and has a very big heart. 3 Years +

The item pictured is not what I received. There are 2 versions of Hank. One with 10 working wheels on the engine, 6 on the coal car(pictured); and one with 6 working wheels on the engine and 4 on the coal car (what I received). The one with more working wheels is more expensive and when I saw this one , I thought it was on sale and when I received it, I was surprised to see the cheaper of the two. Either way it's for my son and he doesn't know any better, so I'm just going to let it go this time. Same great build quality as all the rest.

Very kind and helpful American tender engine, Hank, was always one of our grandson's favorites, with his bright color scheme and friendly demeanor! Painted dark blue with red lining, a white base and dark grey cab roof, Hank has a red cowcatcher on his front (which unfortunately means he can't be part of a procession of trains unless he's in the lead, since his only connecting magnet is on his rear), and a total of 16 matching red wheels (6 large and 4 small on his engine, 6 small on his tender). We paid $8.99 for our grandson's when we began a collection for him back in 2010, the year Fisher-Price took over the Thomas diecast line from Learning Curve's "Take-Along" and renamed it "Take-n-Play". The MSRP for the "large" Take-n-Play engines has been $9 all along, but now we see they've come out with just an incredibly plasticized version (model #CBM77), have taken away SIX of poor Hank's wheels, and are still charging $9! That's a crime. We strongly recommend picking up one of these quality versions of Hank before they're gone (and you're also able to get his version in a very neat, themed 4-pack called "Hank & the Fishing Cars".) And just so you're aware, Take-n-Play products are not compatible with wooden tracks.

Fisher-Price includes a yearly "Collector Checklist" with some (not all) Take-n-Play items, though it was never a comprehensive list and now just uses it as a sales pitch for the most recent stuff.

I bought Hank to add to my 3 yr old grandson's Thomas the Train collection and he was thrilled - Thomas the Train and friends are his 24/7 obsession and he HAD to have Hank. The train is very durable, maybe even unbreakable - we had many derailments and explosions and Hank (and friends) survived them all. I like the fact that he is really learning alot about trains and the terminology that goes along with them like tenders, couplings, buffers, boilers, pistons. Really helps his creativity too.
