The world has many heroes...but only one is a god. When the arrogant warrior Thor (Chris Hemsworth, STAR TREK) is banished to Earth from his homeworld of Asgard, he must fight to reclaim his lost powers. Pursued by an invasion force sent to destroy him, the fallen God of Thunder must rise to the battle and learn what it takes to become a true hero. Natalie Portman (BLACK SWAN) and Anthony Hopkins (BEOWULF) also star in the blockbuster adventure critics are calling "thrilling, entertaining and cool" (Harry Knowles, Ain't It Cool News).

The only reason I didn't give it four stars was b/c of the quality of the dvd I received. I'd first seen this movie in the theater, and thank goodness I did....otherwise I wouldn't have been able to follow along. I couldn't see a thing! The full daylight scenes were o.k., but everything that took place beneath Asgard or on the ice giants' world was nothing but shadow and voices. I adjusted my television's color in countless variations and nothing improved. Tv was working fine...I saw drastic lightening and darkening when I adjusted while watching cable or another dvd. It was like AvP: Requiem all over again. Which is a pity because the visuals are one of the best features of this film. I purchased the single dvd and not the combo pack, if that makes a difference.
Thor certainly satisfies all the requisites of a Blu-ray release of a summer blockbuster. The superhero adventure is presented in a 2.35:1 widescreen format. Though not quite reference quality, the video transfer is certainly sharp and truly stunning. Its spectacular DTS-HD MA 7.1 soundtrack is one of the finest of any Blu-ray releases of 2011. Among special features, "Thor" includes an audio commentary by director Kenneth Branagh, 25 minutes of deleted scenes, theatrical trailers, several behind-the-scenes featurettes (From Asgard to Earth, Our Fearless Leader, Assembling the Troupe, Creating Laufey & Music of the Gods) and a short teaser of the animated series The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Overall, Thor scores a "B".
