I wear these for work in my boots, and for running in my running shoes, for walking the dogs in my sneakers, and trail hiking in my trail shoes. They are very soft, and have no seam discomfort.
I wear these in the winter and the summer.
They last a long time, the first place to wear out is the heel, and I usually see it before I feel it.
I have very large calves and most socks are too tight around the top, these socks are very soft and expandable around the top, but I have no problems with them staying up.
I recommend these to anyone that are on their feet all day, but have enough room in their shoes to accommodate a very thick sock.
A little pricey at $13 a pair, but definitely worth every cent!!
These socks fit well, and stay up - no stretching out excessively or sliding down in my boots, even after a year of wear and many washings.
The padding in the socks makes them comfortable and helps to reduce tired feet and blisters, but it's not so thick that it makes my shoes tight or bunches up. I've had some other types of Thorlo socks that have so much padding in the toe area that they've been too fat for my shoes, or the padding has squished up at the sides of my toes and caused uncomfortable rubbing, but that hasn't been a problem with this pair. The toe seams are also comfortable.
The reason I'm giving these 4 stars instead of 5 is that the fabric of the thicker heels and toes quickly began to develop pulls. It didn't create any holes - just loops of thread sticking out here and there. I've used a sweater snag tool to pull some of the longer of these pulls back through the socks a few times, to prevent my toes from getting stuck in them (if they were on the inside) or tripping over them and creating worse snags in the sock (when they were on the outside). The socks are still perfectly usable and comfortable - it's just that this has been an ongoing minor mending issue, which is kind of a pain. I think I will try another type when it's time to order more hiking socks.
(If you're a larger woman trying to decide between these socks and the Thorlon wool-blend hikers: I ordered one pair of each just to see which I liked better. I'm a Woman's size 22 and these had plenty of stretch in the cuff for my wide calves but the wool-blend did not and dug in uncomfortably. I gave them to my size 10 daughter and they fit her perfectly.)
