grown up child grasping for the hope of a future filled with love. Throughout this novel, Pepper Basham weaves in scriptural references to God’s love and our worth, giving the reader their own hope no matter what they have been through.
This story gives us historical views of the crushing blow that the passengers of the Lusitania sustained, yet this author expounded the scene to include the enormity of the emotional aftermaths as her well developed characters journey toward healing; each with their own personal struggles and POV regarding the disaster.
This is my first full length Pepper Basham novel to read and it definitely won’t be my last. In fact, I am continuing with this series because the characters, for me, deserve their own story.
This is a clean historical romance with no inappropriate scenes and no bad language. It is suitable for teen readers and would help them, I believe, understand the struggle the betrayed female protagonist has with her past, her relationship with God, and her future hopes. This novel also gives insight into living a chaste life prior to marrying the man that God has for each of us and that he is worth the wait.
I don't think any of us can ever truly (in our humanness) understand why God allows bad things to happen in our lives - even if we know in our minds that a lot of it has to do with the free will we've been given. Some of us suffer the consequences of our own actions but the stuff that is hard to understand is when the innocent suffer the consequences of someone else's sin. This book addresses the hard subject of abuse by a parent to a child. But it also shows the powerful way God can take the brokenness of those children and turn their lives into a powerful testimony of grace.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series! :)
Can not wait for the next installment of the Penned in Time series. Pepper Basham’s star is sure to be on the rise! Don't miss out!
Pepper Basham 's debut novel grips your heart and senses with how much God loves you. And the depth of our sin and the depth of His forgiveness. Powerful. Thank you Pepper for writing this.
