From the Inside Flap
With over 10 million copies sold worldwide, here is the towering epic about three generations of a remarkable family in the Australian outback that was the basis for one of the most beloved television miniseries of all time. The Boston Globe called it "the kind of book the word 'blockbuster' was made for." The inaugural edition of our Modern Classics series, this is the only hardcover edition of The Thorn Birds currently in print.

I have fond memories of the mini series watching with my mom... there were parts of it I didn't get to watch but I digress
I have read and reread this book many times, and each time I still find myself getting captured by it. I know how it starts and ends and all the juicy middle parts, but Colleen McCullough just wrote the words that made you want to read the next line, then the next chapter , while you yelled, cried, and literally wanted to go to Australia yourself to see where it was all taking place......
in my opinion although this was considered a forbidden love... I consider it a love story that stands the test time and of generations ...
For me the Thorn Birds will be a classic I keep in my collection
I would thoroughly recommend this book - it was an enduring love story that enchanted me. Note to self - read more Colleen McCullough books!
30 years later, my book club buddies insisted we read it again, and I did with great reluctance. Nothing much changed except that I have grown to enjoy the style of writing, the description of Australian ranch life and the landscape. Hence the extra star.
One of my favourite quotes is from Mary: "Well, Father de Bricassart, let me tell you something. Inside this stupid body I’m still young—I still feel, I still want, I still dream, I still kick up my heels and chafe at restrictions like my body. Old age is the bitterest vengeance our vengeful God inflicts upon us. Why doesn’t He age our minds as well?”
