Dr. David Ross believes that Catherine Dougall is the most amazing woman that he has ever met. As they tirelessly serve the needs of wounded soldiers in a make shift hospital staged within Catherine's once palatial home, rumors abound. Societal expectations are harsh and a vast fortune is at stake for the upstanding doctor; unfortunately David's wealthy benefactor makes it perfectly clear that she will not tolerate the infamous Catherine Dougall. Will Catherine rise above cruel scrutiny, damaging innuendos, and incessant ridicule? Her many talents and wealth of compassion serve her well, but it's her love for the kind doctor that might actually drive them apart if she wishes to spare him further questionable association.
"The Thorn Keeper" is wildly romantic and paints a magnificent display of God's grace and forgiveness, while offering a fragrant reminder that true love is powerful and everlasting, rather than flirtatious and fleeting. Catherine and David must hold steadfast to that truth, when their relationship is thoroughly tested in unimaginable ways.
And the best part of the book? . . ... the letters . . . those beautiful letters.
I had the privilege of reading this story in advance of its release, in exchange for my honest opinion.
Catherine's story had to be told. In the 1st book The Thorn Bearer, I wasn't a huge fan of Catherine. However, Pepper does a fantastic job of introducing the reader to the real Catherine. The misunderstood and underappreciated Catherine. Only a few pages in and I was so very glad that I was getting to know who Catherine really is.
Not since Francine Rivers "Redeeming Love", has a story so captivated! This is the book for you If you enjoy a fantastic historical Christian love story!
Pepper Basham is a wonderful story teller. She writes beautifully and seemingly effortlessly. The characters, especially Catherine and David, came alive on the page. Even the minor characters were vivid and so well-developed that I could see them in my mind. I felt I was there with them. The story had enough twists and turns that it kept me engaged throughout. I found it hard to believe this is only her second book. I am definitely looking forward to reading more of her books. Although this is the second book in the series, it can stand alone. It would be enhanced, however, by reading The Thorn Bearer first, since some of the characters carry over from the first one. I would recommend this to those who enjoy clean, romantic stories. You definitely won't be disappointed! Thanks, Pepper Basham, for an absolutely marvelous story!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.
I loved the supporting characters as well, most of them anyway. Of course there are antagonists to make things interesting, surprise happenings that catch you unaware, all set during WWI.
If you love to read historical romance, touched with a little mystery, and surprises, you'll love this novel. No fear if you haven't read the first book, this one can be read as a standalone. But after reading The Thornkeeper, I'm sure you'll want to go back and read The Thornbearer.
I was given this ebook to read and give my honest opinion, which I have done.
