Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Thornewicke is SpeculativeFiction with a Christian slant. I originally read Libba Bray's seriesand thought, "Why is it all the secular readers get to have so muchfun?" But I also was disappointed in some of the secular viewpoints andoccult influences in the books, which in large part is why I don'trecommend a lot of speculative fiction to my readers. Much of the time, secular books cross over from magic into satanic themes.

My ideawas to introduce magic into Christian Fiction, through a premise thatmagic is tied in to Biblical principles and Spiritual Gifts. Often, thetalents these characters have are extensions of our responsibilities asBelievers... in the case of Thornewicke, a young woman chosen as aGuardian against evil in a very specific way and place. There are twokinds of magic in this book - the magic that comes from the Creator inher role as a Guardian, and sorcery used by the forces of evil.

This is the first in a series of books set in different time periods, withdifferent historical backdrops and characters, revolving aroundSpiritual Gifts. There will be occasional cross-overs but each book will stand alone, united only through its theme of spirituality and thefantastical. As the series progresses, you will meet Influencers, Seers, Prophets, Discerners, Peacemakers, Healers, Sirens, and many others. There are layers of religious symbolism for the reader who chooses tosearch for it; none of it was intended but God has a way of poking Hisnose into my business and forcing me, through my own writing, toconfront the things I struggle with as a believer. The books, I hope, are never overtly preachy but they are distinctly Christian, in manyinstances with pastors in the top tier of characters.

About the Author

Charity Bishop is a female INTP - funny, quirky, analytical, a littlesentimental, and occasionally forgetful, with an offbeat sense of humor, a tendency to like sci-fi, and a storehouse of knowledge about "useless trivia." She gets fixated on learning things, and obsesses over themuntil she knows everything there is to know about them, then looks forsomething new to learn. She gets bored with "same-ness," but is good atimpartiality and seeing both sides in an argument. In fact, she's likely to argue both sides for the sheer fun of it.

She grew upin the church and was saved at a young age, but re-evaluated andre-dedicated her life to Christ three years ago. Since then, God hasencouraged her to trust Him with her life and future - which sometimesis an uphill battle for a stubborn girl. As she struggles withunderstanding His ways along with her characters, He gently reveals theanswers. He's her co-author, both in the stories she tells and in hervery own story.

Her day job is a magazine editor, and her hobbies (other than writing books) include over-analyzing everything she comesinto contact with, vigorously defending various incarnations of Sherlock Holmes against perceived injustices, irritating her friends withtheological musings, and MBTI typing fictional characters.
