Firstly, let me start with the positives: The construction of these boots is top notch. From the triple stitching to the tobacco-coloured leather, there is a mark of quality and a sense of surety. The Vibram sole is thick but they offer excellent grip, comfort and support. The sole absorbs vibrations well and are very silent to walk in. I've worn these in rain, sleet and snow and they've done an excellent job keeping my feet dry and warm (the tongue is stitched down the sides so water seepage is practically non-existent).
Now, to the downsides. Being robust comes with its flaws -- the boots themselves are quite heavy and with a thick sole they can be cumbersome to walk in, especially when new. As the Vibram sole is quite thick/high, they're prone to scuffing and pick up marks pretty quickly. Most of them can be rubbed off but some of the darker scuffs stain. Unfortunately these boots are quite big in size so I'd recommend dropping 0.5-1 size down from what you normally wear. I ignored this advice and find my feet slip in them when walking unless I wear substantially thick socks. I'm tempted to sell these and try a smaller size or try some Chippewas.
I'd recommend them, but seriously considering going a size smaller.
They run a little large for sure; my Brannock measured size is 11D, but a 10.5 fits quite well, perhaps a little long still. A 10 wouldn't leave enough room for thick wool socks in winter, so I recommend sizing down 1/2 size from your Brannock measurement as I did. I also have high insteps and fairly wide feet, but the regular D width is just fine. They fairly comfortable right out of the box after a little conditioning with Lexol, but it'll be a while before they feel natural on the foot due to the sturdy construction. However, once the leather and cork conform to the foot, these will be incredibly comfortable. These are work boots through and through.. not a fashion item. That being said, they're comfortable to wear on a daily basis and also complement many outfits. Try them out, you won't be sorry.
