After writing this review I decided to email Amazon about the issue with the boots and they overnighted a new pair! They were at my doorstep the next day. Awesome service!
Having said that, I assumed that it would be no different with the black version. Not so much...
After a couple weeks of daily wear, these boots are still too firm and tight to wear with the insole that is provided. Now, is that such a bad thing, probably not. But, if you are expecting a 1 day break in like you get either most thorogood boots, you will be disappointed. As I write this review, my feet are actually pulsing because I have the insoless in, without the boots even being tied, and are so tight they're definitely hurting.
Something to keep in mind for sure if you've worn their other colors in the past and expect the same "out of the box comfort" that one is used to with Thorogood boots.
These boots have extremely comfortable insoles, and along with the max wear wedge sole- these boots are a complete package of comfort! I will recommend anyone buying these to wear long socks. I wore socks that were short and received blisters on my legs do to the leather rubbing on my skin while walking. These boots are six inches tall so any socks over that height would be perfect. This is my first time purchasing a pair of Thorogood's and I'm completely satisfied so far.
The break in period took about 6 work days. They were uncomfortable just like any boots your trying to break in. Some out there say that there was no break in period at all, well for me there was and it was a pretty harsh 6 days & totally worth it. These boots have now somewhat shaped to my feet and are getting more comfortable every time I use them.
I love these boots, and so will you. I just purchased another pair and will continue to stay loyal to these beautiful American made boots. Hope this review helped.
edit: 1 year and 7 months later. well, after a year and seven months i am going to retire these boots. they did pretty good for the price considering i wore them almost every day of that time. i am a painter by trade, and while i'm not super hard on boots, i do spend a fair amount of time in a crouched or kneeling position at work (keep your mind out of the gutter there funny guy). that has been the thing that killed these boots. the triple stitching blew out on one boot after a year had passed, and i kept it going for another six months by stitching it back together with a sewing awl. the final coup de gras was the leather on the other shoe cracking through. i oil my boots with regularity, but since the stitching blew out on the one shoe i had oiled them only one time in six months, so rightly so the leather gave way. i would say these are not quite as hearty as an american made pair of redwings, but easily out performed any chineese boot made by redwing or danner (both of which i have owned.) i just ordered another pair, this time trying the roofer model to see how they hold up. i would still recommend these boots for their price point alone.
