Life has never been easy for the three Campbell sisters. Jess, Courtney, and Dani live on a remote ranch in Western Canada where they work hard and try to stay out of the way of their father's temper. One night, a fight gets out of hand and the sisters are forced to go on the run, only to get caught in an even worse nightmare when their truck breaks down in a small town. As events spiral out of control they find themselves in a horrifying situation and are left with no choice but to change their names and create new lives.
Eighteen years later, they are still trying to forget what happened that summer. But when one of the sisters goes missing, followed closely by her niece, they are pulled back into the past. And this time there's nowhere left to run.
With Those Girls Chevy Stevens presents her most visceral thriller yet: an unforgettable portrait of desperation, loyalty, and evil. A story of survival...and revenge.

About the author

CHEVY STEVENS lives on Vancouver Island with her husband and daughter. When she’s not working on her next book, she’s hiking with her two dogs on her favorite mountain trails and spending time with her family. Chevy's current obsessions are vintage airstreams, Hollywood memoirs, all things mid-century modern, and stand-up comedians--not necessarily in that order. Her debut novel, STILL MISSING, was a New York Times bestseller and won the International Thriller Writers Award for Best First Novel. Her books, including THOSE GIRLS which Stephen King called "incredibly scary", have been published in more than thirty countries. Her novel, DARK ROADS, will be released summer 2021. The story opens with their dad arriving home drunk again and full of rage. To stay safe they must take matters into their own hands. Their dad is trying his best to kill their sister. Three days later they are on the run with very little money. The night the three sisters run away everything changes for them. And not for the better.
They try to make it to Vancouver to hide and start over. They made it only to the small town of Cash Creek, where their truck breaks down. Two guys, Brian and Gaven, have stopped to help them. However it is out of the frying pan into the fire. The sisters once again find themselves captured, abducted, and treated like animals. How will they escape this time? These two guys are pure evil and sadistic. When they finally escape the girls know these guys will come looking for them and possibly kill them. They are running from not one situation but now two. The girls must change their names. They are now Jamie, Dallas and Crystal. Just when they start to think that everything will be alright, the unthinkable happens.
THOSE GIRLS plunges you into the emotional bonds of three sisters who are fearlessly protective of one another. It is a novel of family, desperation, tragedy and love. It is intense, gripping, emotional and powerful. A real page turner!!! Worthy of 5+ stars.
The three main characters are sisters, each with different hopes and dreams, but all very loyal and connected to each other due to their home life. Their mother has died and they are left with a father who leaves VERY much to be desired. When tragedy strikes, they must leave their home to try to escape.
This puts them on an even more dangerous path, and along this path they encounter a situation which is hard to read but a cautionary lesson about being careful who to trust. The sisters escape this second tragic situation changed in many ways, but still very much tied to each other by their bond of sisterly love. They find kind people to help and move on with their lives far from their home. Or so it seems.... After one of the sisters becomes embroiled in her traumatic past and retraces their journey, others are placed in jeopardy and her sisters must race against time to save her.
Note: This book has passages that are difficult and sometimes disturbing to read, but sadly, what happened to these girls is not a matter of fiction. What they did to heal and attempt to help each other is what makes this book so special, as well as how I felt I knew each character and their personalities.
Very well written with an unusual plot twist and a realistic ending that might not be satisfying to all readers, but is more targeted to reality than some novels where everything works out perfectly in the end. Highly recommended.

This is a tale of three teenage sisters, living in remote rural Canada. Their mother died in a road accident some years previously, they briefly went separately into foster care until their father was able to bring his family together again. He works remotely in the oil fields and spends three weeks away and one week at home. The girls are largely left to fend for themselves with little money, eking out en existence with a bit of stealing to help get by. They used to be happier as a family but no longer, father's visits are anticipated with dread rather than longing. An incident early on in the book forces the sisters to run away to seek a better life; they have a vague plan to head to Vancouver.
On the way to Vancouver, having never been so far from home before, they breakdown near a small remote town. Two teenage boys initially seem to be saviours but they are anything but, they now face a situation even worse than that which they fled. Their eventual escape sees them finally find a true saviour he gets them to a bus bound for Vancouver where an ex Army mate, who helps victims such as these three, awaits them.
The book then moves on 17 years. The sisters, very close, none of them married, have established a new life, there is a nearly grown daughter/niece of 17 years age. One incident in particular awakens anger in the middle sister who returns east to confront her demons. The niece, Skylark, feels guilty at being partially responsible at least for exposing these memories and chases after her aunt, followed, some days later, by her mother and other aunt when they realise where the two of them have gone, bringing the story to its conclusion.
To be honest, I thought Skylark's actions in chasing after her aunt just slightly implausible for a 17 year old (maybe the 17 year olds I know lack this bravery/determination?) but this aside, and without giving away any more of the plot, I thought the pace terrific, the tension and situations described riveting and uneasy all at once. Not an author I have read before but one I would not hesitate to read again. stirring stuff.

I’m a huge Chevy Stevens fan. This was a thoughtful thriller, so not as fast-paced as some of her other books, yet the characters are still brilliantly written, with an intricate plot and beautiful, sometimes chilling descriptions.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had my my pulse racing the whole way through and I was totally engrossed in the story.
Absolutely brilliant and I would say that if you are going on holiday and need a book, this is definitely the one to take.
Cannot praise it enough. You wont be able to put it down.
