She's worked in the pharmaceutical industry for ten years as a scientist, and has been an avid fiction reader her entire life. There's trouble in paradise....Is the husband dead? Missing? Kidnapped? Or did he simply walk away? The book totally changes directions halfway through & the story of the missing husband takes the back burner. In fact, a little before half, you have a pretty good idea what happened to him. Rather than unfold all the juicy secrets that led Claire to seriously doubt Greg, the author skims over it to where you feel like maybe they had issues but nothing shocking that leaves you desperate to know what happens. The book never explains a few things Greg did, it simply mentions his odd behavior and never loops back for an explanation. The book becomes more focused on Claire's social life than her missing husband and the circumstances around it. The end is just crap cuz even though you find out what happened to Greg, there isn't a whole lot of detail. It's like "ok here's the truth, here's how/why it happened, now let's get on with Claire's social life." This is more of a boring romantic comedy than a suspense novel. Trust me, you're gonna be PISSED at the end if you picked up this book to read about "how you never really know somebody" & "what would you do if your spouse disappeared without a trace?" .....please! The author puts such little emphasis on where Greg might be that it's pathetic! Don't do it! I can't get those hours back!
returned. How she and the police looked for him, all the time and waiting each day for him to return.
She had never paid the bills and knew nothing about their finances. She not only learned a lot about that, but how to clean out gutters and mow the lawn with a mower she had never used before.
Just as she brought another man into her world and was finally starting to get her life back, Greg was found. Where? Was he with someone else? Was he well? Get the book. Find out all the things she went through before she could get on with her life. Find out how she done that. Did she do that: Alone … With Greg … or with the other man in her life.
From there, you have to get the book and read what happened. It was a good book. Well worth reading. I really liked it. I gave it a 5 star rating.
Why did he have an affair? Why did he end it? Why was he pushed in front of the car? Was it an accident? Attempted murder? Attempted suicide? What does Claire truly want? What will she choose?
Literally none of the questions you're asking the whole time you're reading get answered. Instead, everything is left unresolved with the characters settling into a weird existence. This is probably what would realistically happen in life but it doesn't make for a very interesting story.
Oh, and Drew (the love interest) is such a doormat I actually found myself rooting for the cheating husband.
book is only the second book this author has written! Her writing drew me into the story immediately. The characters are totally believable, and it is a story that I had difficulty putting down. You are anxious to see how the story will end, and yet you never really know until you reach the Epilogue. I felt as though I was walking through this tragedy right along with Claire. You can't help but wonder how it will all play out.
I will definitely be reading Kate Moretti' s other book entitled: Ties That Bind. This book would make a wonderful book club choice.
