I belong to Phyllis Sather's email list so when she offered her subscribers to receive any of her books as a kindness from herself I asked if I might get this one once I read the blurb on it. This book's description spoke to me because I do feel sometimes as if I am being left behind in ways.
I have health issues that sometimes are fairly physically limiting and my son has a rare genetic disorder, which can make it hard to do things that other stay at home people can do on the fly without a mountain of preparation and assistance. I try not to dwell on it overmuch, but there are days when it makes me feel rather alone in this kind of experience.
The vignettes and poetry in this booklet are encouraging and help you to strengthen your faith and appreciate what Grace does for you, even on the hardest days. There is no replacement for the compassion of someone who has experienced the thing you are going through and that comes across so poignantly in these words contained within Thoughts on Being Left Behind.
A favorite Gospel song of mine is called The Rough Side of the Mountain because it reminds me to lean on Him when times are hard. The words in this book gives me that same sense of hope.. that when I am feeling down and as if I am on this climb alone, I need only to remember that He is there for me every step of the way and it brings not only great comfort, but hope that somehow you might still be useful in some capacity once you get through a rough spot.
I feel this book can be a blessing in many lives and not just for the ones feeling left behind.. but for the ones trying to understand how to assist them. It is a short book that can be read quickly in about an hour or so (as I just did) but I know this will be a book that I reread slowly and ponder deeply on the words more in depth in the future as well.
Thank you for reading my review and I hope you have a wonderful day.
