This book came to me in excellent condition. Its contents are very informative, enlightening, thought provoking. Its illustrations are entertaining and numerous. Though dated, it is still an excellent examination for life-work planning. Essential thesis, life here is education, vocation, recreation (instead of thinking of retirement). Education should have elements of work and recreation, work should have elements of education and recreation, and recreation should have elements of education and work. Author does not exclude God from a balanced picture of life, but it is in the last portion of the book about his brother.

Concept of balancing education, work and leisure throughout life rather than overloading in each time periods is major point of book. Could see an update from interested writer to apply timeless principals to today's technology.

The Three Boxes of Life

This book makes an interesting analysis of Life by placing everything into three boxes. On its face it seems cute, endearing and holds potential for insight. Unfortunately, unless you're 12-17 years old it's an abundant waste of time. The author alleges this book is good for all ages. I couldn't disagree more.

The author goes to great length to present the reader with common sense. If you're lacking that fundamental, I doubt the text book/work book style of this book will be of much assistance.

One of the most entertaining enlightenments brought to us by this author is a recommendation for the reader of any book to look at the print date (original and reprints) to determine how out of date the author's writings may be. This book was printed in the early 80's and sites studies from the 70's. Enough said; the book's statistical support of the author's theories are antiquated and don't really translate to today's world.

However, if you are a teenager or adult who has no idea what to do with yourself and you are unable to formulate a plan to accomplish your goals this book may be of some value. You must be able to learn from lengthy explanations and complete work book activities for self exploration to gain the insight you seek.

By in large if you are an adult who has worked, gone to college or worked for years in a trade or profession, I'd put this book in the "Skip it" department.
