    Just bought this for my dad for a father's day gift as a replacement set for the battered one he had lost. The jackets are lovely and will make a great display for his library. I had read a view reviews that mentioned they disliked the jackets and how they were easily removed. For any future buyers, I find they stay on just fine. Plus they look gorgeous even without the jackets. Another cool addition that I only found out once the set had arrived was the maps comes with each book, not just one copy per set. Each map is in the back of the books, it's basically a giant folded page that you can unravel. My only qualm with this is one of the maps was ever so slightly torn. Otherwise, loved the purchase and would recommend.

    I was expecting a boxed set of high quality volumes. The covers were a great design, melding the three volumes seamlessly and with a mythic theme drawn from the entrance gate to the Mines of Moria, marked out in Ithildin ink. Unfortunately nothing lived up to expectation, from the academic introduction which told me that the 3-volume concept was a mistake (!), to the poor quality paper and mass-production values of the sometimes sloppy copying (I wouldn't dignify it with the word 'printing'). This is beneath the standard of all other purchases I have made through Amazon, and the cost after shipping to a third party was incredibly exorbitant. I had intended it as a gift, but I would be too embarrassed to do this now, and will look for something else.

    The have a respectable look to them. These are the jackets I am discussing. From there it goes down hill. They are not fitted well to the books. Something about the food does not grip the covers. Are these supposed to be removed whilst reading the book? Then the jacket has a non slippery waxy feel to them . Also my hands are ( clean) leaving Mark's on the jackets. I'm not at all pleased with them.
